Group Product Manager, SMB Accounting

The Group Product Manager, SMB Accounting is a strategic product leader responsible for owning the core accounting and bookkeeping experience at the heart of the Wave/Small Business product suite - the product that most directly determines whether a small business owner trusts us with their books, day in and day out. This leader will manage a team of Product Managers. This is a coach-player role - the ideal candidate is energized by both individual contribution and people leadership, and knows when to shift between them based on what the business needs.

They will lead their team in translating strategy into execution, ensuring product outcomes align with business and customer needs. They will manage product budgets, oversee their product team, and promote best practices in product development and discovery - with particular attention to the accounting/bookkeeping domain's regulatory, data-integrity, and trust requirements. This position requires a blend of domain expertise, hands-on product management, and steady leadership through a period of transition.

Day to day, you'll...

• Define and lead the product vision, strategy, roadmap, OKRs, and success metrics for the SMB Accounting group, ensuring the core bookkeeping experience keeps pace with the needs of growing small businesses and solopreneurs
• Own accounting/bookkeeping product decisions with the judgment the domain demands - balancing usability, accuracy, and compliance in a product small business owners depend on to run their financial lives
• Partner closely with Tax and cross-platform counterparts to help unify accounting and tax workflows as part of the broader SMB platform strategy, ensuring the accounting experience integrates cleanly with adjacent products rather than operating in a silo
• Own and evolve the mobile accounting experience, establishing the roadmap and driving alignment across engineering, design, and business stakeholders on mobile direction - mobile experience delivery is a hard requirement for this role
• Develop a high-performing team that utilizes continuous product discovery best practices and modern SDLC methodologies - including frequent user research, comprehensive roadmap and backlog management, and hypothesis-driven experimentation - to ensure products meet customer needs and business goals
• Inspire, align, and influence across engineering, design, and business functions - securing necessary resources, coordinating technology and design work for on-time delivery, and navigating complex cross-functional challenges and dependencies
• Craft logical business cases, understand financial impacts, and define and execute business and customer benefit OKRs. Use data to prioritize opportunities, demonstrate product value, and impact KPIs
• Identify where AI can meaningfully improve day-to-day team productivity and velocity, and separately, identify where AI can be built directly into the accounting product to deliver real customer value, always starting from the customer's problem and pain points rather than the technology itself
• Foster a culture of continuous improvement, driving operational excellence through retrospectives, coaching, and ongoing refinement of team processes and ways of working

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Business, Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, Data-related field, or a related discipline, or the equivalent through a combination of education and relevant work experience
• Direct experience in the small business accounting, or tax software space. You understand the SMB customer, their financial workflows, and what it takes to earn their trust with their books. This domain fluency is a hard requirement for this role
• Proven experience defining and delivering mobile product experiences, ideally in a SaaS or financial services context. Mobile product delivery experience is a hard requirement for this role
• Deep SaaS product-building experience, ideally across both early-stage and scaled environments, with a focus on financial or business services
• Identify and leverage AI-enabled capabilities and workflows to improve customer experience, product velocity, and quality in ways that align with business priorities and deliver measurable impact
• Strong people leadership experience, including leading Product Managers, developing talent, setting priorities, and building high-performing teams, with genuine comfort operating as a coach-player
• Proven ability to define product strategy, derive requirements, analyze trade-offs, and prioritize investments across multiple teams and stakeholders in a matrixed environment
• Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills, including the ability to explain technical and financial concepts clearly to non-technical audiences and influence senior stakeholders across business and technology functions
• Strong business acumen, including experience building business cases, evaluating trade-offs, and aligning product investments to customer value, company priorities, and financial outcomes

Preferred Qualifications

• 8+ years of experience in product management, including leading large mission-critical products that involve significant business and technology change, with a minimum of 2+ years in managing people
• Direct experience in the small business accounting, or tax software space
• Mobile product delivery experience

Pay Range Information

The pay range for this position is listed below. Local minimum wage laws apply. This information is posted pursuant to local requirements to provide applicants with information about what they might be eligible to receive. Individual pay decisions will depend on job-related factors such as experience, education, skill, performance, and geographic location where work will be performed. Successful candidates may be able to participate in one or more incentive compensation or short-term incentive plans, which could generate additional earnings in accordance with the terms of each plan. Qualifying associates can enroll themselves and/or their eligible dependents in medical and prescription drug coverage; can participate in the H&R Block Retirement Savings Plan (401(k) Plan), the Employee Assistance Program, (virtual) fitness center programs, and the associate discount program; are automatically enrolled in Business Travel Accident Insurance; and receive Associate Tax Prep benefit.

Pay Range

$125,500.00 - $200,800.00/Yr.
