Commitment: Long-term, hands-on co-founder role
Stage: Live product, early validation
DevMarathon is building a challenge-based platform for evaluating developers through real execution rather than relying primarily on resumes, interviews, or traditional coding assessments.
Developers complete structured software challenges while DevMarathon captures evidence of how they approach problems, plan their work, make technical decisions, manage scope, use modern development tools, and ship.
AI-assisted evaluation analyzes both the submitted code and development activity to help companies understand a developer's practical technical ability.
Our long-term goal is simple:
Make proof of work a stronger signal than credentials in developer hiring and technical evaluation.
The product is live. Developers can already join public challenges, while organizations can create challenges, invite candidates, and use AI-assisted technical evaluation.
We also have early users and initial paid validation.
What we have not solved yet is repeatable distribution.
That is why I am looking for a Growth Co-Founder.
I am not looking for an employee with some equity, a freelance marketer, or someone to manage social media.
I am looking for the person who can become the second founder of DevMarathon and take ownership of the commercial side of the company.
I have built the product and technical infrastructure as a technical founder.
Now I want to work with someone who can help answer the next critical question:
How do we turn DevMarathon into a company that customers actively want, use, pay for, and recommend?
For the right person, I am prepared to offer up to 40% equity, subject to vesting.
That level of ownership comes with founder-level responsibility and commitment.
Your primary responsibility is not simply “marketing.”
Your responsibility is helping DevMarathon discover and build a repeatable path to customers.
You will take ownership of areas such as:
You will speak directly with founders, engineering leaders, recruiters, universities, developer communities, and other potential users.
You will help us understand:
Especially at this stage, growth will involve doing things that do not scale.
You should be comfortable reaching out directly, running demos, following up, handling objections, building relationships, and learning from rejection.
There is no predefined growth playbook.
We will test different customer segments, messages, channels, pricing models, partnerships, and sales motions.
Potential channels may include:
But we will not use channels just because they are fashionable.
If something does not work, we stop.
If something works, we go deeper.
We care about results, not marketing activity for its own sake.
You do not need to come from a famous company or have a specific degree.
Previous startup experience is valuable, but not required.
I care much more about evidence that you can communicate, learn, experiment, execute, and create results.
You may be a strong fit if you:
You should naturally ask questions such as:
Why would someone buy this?
Why would they not?
Who has this problem most urgently?
How do we reach them?
Why did this experiment work?
Why did another one fail?
This is one of the most important parts of the role.
I am offering founder-level ownership because I am looking for founder-level commitment.
This should not be treated as:
You should genuinely want to build a company.
You should be prepared for periods where growth is slow, customers say no, experiments fail, positioning changes, and the correct direction is unclear.
I do not expect blind agreement.
I expect ownership, resilience, honesty, consistent execution, and the confidence to challenge my assumptions when necessary.
Neither founder should be waiting for the other one to solve the company.
I currently own product, engineering, and technical execution.
You would primarily own growth, customers, distribution, and commercial strategy.
But there will not be a rigid wall between us.
I will participate in sales and customer conversations.
You will influence product direction.
Important company decisions will be made together.
As a co-founder, you will also have meaningful input into:
You will not be executing someone else's finished vision.
You will help shape the company.
For the right Growth Co-Founder, I am prepared to offer up to 40% equity in DevMarathon.
This is intentionally founder-level ownership.
The final structure will depend on:
Equity will be subject to:
The principle is simple:
If we build DevMarathon together over the long term, you should own a meaningful part of what we create.
If either founder leaves early, the company should remain protected.
DevMarathon currently has:
You will not be joining an idea on a slide deck.
There is already a real product to build from.
At the same time, we are early enough that the next co-founder can have a major influence over what the company becomes.
In the first months, we should make meaningful progress toward answering questions such as:
You are not expected to know these answers on day one.
You are expected to help us discover them.
This probably is not the right opportunity if you are mainly looking for:
There is currently no salary.
DevMarathon is founder-funded.
The upside is meaningful ownership.
The downside is startup-level uncertainty.
Please consider both seriously.
Because many of the most important questions are still open.
The product exists.
The technology works.
But the company is not yet fully determined.
The next co-founder will help decide:
If you want to join after all of those questions are already answered, this is probably too early.
If you want to help answer them, this may be exactly the right stage.
Please do not send a generic cover letter.
Instead, tell me:
I am looking for evidence of judgment, curiosity, communication, ownership, and execution.
