Growth / DevRel (contract-to-hire)

Deskboot
Posted 3 hours ago
🇫🇷France🏠Remote📁Marketing
Is this job info correct?
We just launched DeskBoot — on-demand Windows and Linux desktops billed by the second. It works, customers are using it, and now we need help getting the word out and shaping the product with the people who show up.

  • Remote-first. We're on UTC+3 (Nairobi). We work with anyone who can overlap 3–4 hours.
  • Small team. Every hire has visible impact. There's no layer to hide behind.
  • Ship weekly. Read our changelog — that's the cadence.
  • Cash-conservative. We're bootstrapped-adjacent. Contract-to-hire lets us both see if it's a fit before committing.
  • Write things down. Sync meetings are the exception. Async docs are the default.

We're a small cloud desktop SaaS just past launch. We ship weekly and want to turn each meaningful change into something people can actually watch — a 30-second demo for social, a 3-minute product explainer for YouTube, a screen-recording tutorial that walks users through a real workflow. You'd own that end-to-end: take our raw screen recordings and rough voiceovers, cut them into finished pieces, add basic motion / captions / transitions, and hand them back ready to publish. Not a "brand video" role — more of a "we keep shipping stuff, help us make it look intentional" role. What you'd do

Edit 3–5 short (< 90 sec) social clips per week for X, LinkedIn, and Instagram Reels — tight cuts, captions, on-brand color
  • Produce 1–2 medium (3–4 min) explainer or feature videos per month for YouTube + the site
  • Turn screen recordings + rough voiceovers into finished tutorials for /docs
  • Maintain a consistent look — build a reusable style (lower-thirds, captions font, intro/outro) and apply it across all output
  • Suggest edits to the source recordings (framing, pacing, script fixes) so future recordings need less cleanup
  • Manage the raw + finished asset library in a shared drive

  • Who fits

    • You've been editing video professionally for at least a year — YouTube channels, marketing agencies, or solo client work
    • You know a modern editor (DaVinci Resolve, Premiere, Final Cut, or CapCut Pro) well enough to handle color, audio ducking, and captions without hunting through menus
    • You can turn a rough recording into something clean without a formal brief every time — you have taste and you use it
    • You understand what makes a technical explainer readable: pacing that respects the audience, no fluff, cut every "um"
    • You reply within a business day when we send you a project brief

    Nice to have

    • You've made videos for a developer, SaaS, or B2B audience before
    • Comfortable with light motion graphics — Lottie, After Effects, or the equivalents inside Resolve / Premiere
    • You can record your own voiceovers (clean mic + treated room)
    • You've done short-form vertical (Reels, Shorts, TikTok) at scale, not just repurposed landscape
    • You've published to your own channel and have subscribers who watched your work

We just launched and we're looking for one person to own the top of the funnel: showing up on the platforms our customers already read, writing the posts, running the launches, and moving the needle on signups. Not a generic 'do marketing' role — a hands-on 'ship the content, run the experiments, measure what worked' role. What you'd do

    • Own our presence on X, LinkedIn, Reddit (r/devops, r/homelab, r/sysadmin), Hacker News, and dev.to
    • Write 2–4 technical posts a month — launch write-ups, tutorials, benchmarks, teardowns
    • Run 1–2 paid experiments a month (Reddit ads, Twitter ads, sponsored newsletters) with clear before/after numbers
    • Own our weekly newsletter — write, ship, measure open + click rates
    • Talk to customers. Turn what they tell you into positioning, docs, and case studies.
    • Set up basic funnel analytics we don't have yet (channel → signup → first paid session)

    Who fits

    • You've done growth or DevRel at a small technical company before (bonus if you did it early, i.e. under $1M ARR)
    • You write clearly about technical products. Send us something you wrote.
    • You've run paid ads and can talk about what worked and what didn't with actual numbers
    • You're comfortable being the only marketing person — no team to hand off to
    • You care about tools developers use, not just 'marketing SaaS'

    Nice to have

    • You've used AWS, DigitalOcean, Linode, Hetzner, Vultr, or similar and can talk about them like a customer
    • You have an existing following in developer / sysadmin / infosec circles
    • You've written docs or tutorials that ranked on Google
    • You've done community management on Discord / Slack / forums
