About Bota
Bota builds AI hardware products that bring real-world context into AI and agentic workflows.
We are backed by top-tier institutional investors and angels, including Andreessen Horowitz. Our cofounders are repeat founders who previously built and exited a Y Combinator-backed startup together.
We believe the quality of AI is fundamentally limited by the quality of the context it has access to. Today, much of the most valuable real-world context — conversations, environments, interactions, and events happening outside the screen — is still missing from AI systems.
Bota is building the hardware layer that captures and brings this critical real-world context into AI and agentic workflows, enabling AI to understand more of what is happening in the physical world and act on it.
The Role
We’re looking for a dangerously resourceful technical generalist to join the Office of the CEO and work directly with Bota’s cofounder & CEO on some of the company’s most critical growth projects.
At Bota, growth means one thing: getting our product in front of more ideal customers.
Your job is to figure out who those customers are, where they spend time, what gets their attention, and how we can reach them in ways that are creative, scalable, and high-leverage.
You’ll do that primarily through building.
You might launch a small open-source project that becomes useful inside a target community. You might build a creative integration with ChatGPT or another widely used AI product. You might see something happening in the news, identify an opportunity, and ship a relevant prototype while the topic is still trending.
The specific projects will constantly change. The underlying goal will not: find creative ways to reach the right people, and use engineering to make those ideas scalable.
This is not an engineer supporting a growth team.
You are an engineer whose product is growth.
What You’ll Do
Work directly with Bota’s CEO on highly critical growth projects.
Identify Bota’s ideal customer profiles, understand where they spend time, and find creative ways to get Bota in front of them.
Develop unconventional, engineering-driven growth ideas rather than relying only on traditional marketing channels.
Rapidly prototype and launch small products, open-source projects, integrations, automations, and other growth hacks.
Own projects end-to-end: identify the opportunity, form a hypothesis, build, launch, distribute, measure, and iterate.
Define clear success criteria for experiments and track whether they actually create meaningful growth.
Move quickly from an idea to something real in the hands of potential customers.
Turn successful one-off experiments into scalable and repeatable growth channels.
Continuously look for opportunities where software, AI, APIs, automation, or emerging technology can create disproportionate leverage.
Examples of Projects
Projects in this role are intentionally broad and experimental.
You might:
Build a small open-source project that is genuinely useful to a specific community of ideal Bota customers and introduces them to Bota.
Create an unconventional integration or hack involving ChatGPT that gets Bota in front of a new audience.
Spot a trending news story or emerging technology shift and build a relevant prototype within days to take advantage of the attention.
Launch a lightweight standalone product or developer tool that solves a narrow problem for our ICP and naturally leads users toward Bota.
Build an automation that turns a previously manual growth tactic into something that can operate at 100x the scale.
Prototype a new distribution mechanism using APIs, AI agents, developer ecosystems, communities, or existing platforms.
Build something entirely different that neither you nor we have thought of yet.
The goal is not to build large products.
The goal is to build the smallest thing that can create meaningful distribution, learn quickly, and scale the ideas that work.
Who You Are
You are a dangerously resourceful technical generalist.
You may have been a founder before, or you may want to become one in the future. Either way, you naturally operate like an owner.
You don’t need a detailed product spec before you start. You can take an ambiguous goal, understand the problem, figure out what needs to be built, and get something into the world.
You are likely someone who:
Is technically strong enough to independently turn ideas into working products and experiments.
Moves extremely quickly and is comfortable shipping imperfect things when speed matters.
Is comfortable operating with ambiguity and limited direction.
Has strong product and technical taste.
Thinks creatively about distribution and how things spread.
Is willing to throw away experiments that don’t work rather than becoming attached to what you built.
Cares about measurable outcomes rather than simply shipping features.
Naturally looks for leverage through software, automation, AI, APIs, communities, and existing ecosystems.
Is comfortable crossing the traditional boundaries between engineering, product, growth, and marketing.
Frequently finds yourself building things that nobody asked you to build.
Most importantly, when you see a problem, your instinct is not to ask “Who owns this?”
Your instinct is:
“How do I figure this out?”
How We Work
This role comes with a high degree of autonomy and a broad scope.
We value:
Speed over unnecessary perfection
Ownership over waiting for instructions
Experiments over endless debate
Measurable outcomes over activity
Creativity over copying the standard growth playbook
Leverage over brute force
You should be comfortable going from a loosely defined idea to something live in front of users with very little process in between.
The role is hybrid and will work closely with Bota’s CEO and broader team.
