Growth Strategist, Healthcare
Consultus DigitalCOMPANY OVERVIEW
Consultus Digital engineers the digital marketing and CRM systems that scaling businesses run on. From our Toronto studio we build websites, run paid media and SEO, produce ad creative, and set up the CRM and tracking behind it for businesses across Canada. We've built a dedicated Healthcare Division for clinics, practice groups, hospitals and healthcare ecommerce brands, and it now needs a Growth Strategist to own new business.
This is an inbound and outbound seat. You'll work the leads our healthcare campaigns generate, and you'll go after the healthcare organizations we've decided we want as clients. We sell into small and mid-market healthcare: practice groups, multi-location clinics, community hospitals, health networks and healthcare ecommerce brands, where the owner or a small executive team makes the call. You run discovery, present the plan, close the deal. Our delivery team does the work after that.
Most agency sales jobs hand you a laptop and a phone and wish you luck. This one comes with an ironed-out, sophisticated acquisition system spanning digital, outbound and direct mail, a blueprint for working it, and the President sitting next to you for your first few months. What it doesn't come with is permission to wait for the phone to ring.
WHY THIS SEAT MATTERS
The Healthcare Division is new. We built it this year with its own site, its own campaigns, its own collateral and its own budget, and we're putting serious money behind it because healthcare is where some of our best client results have come from. You'd be joining the division at the start, so the book of business you build is the division's book. Every dollar we're spending on healthcare leads and outreach is pointed at making you successful. It's a pivotal seat, and it's the first of several divisions we're building the same way, so how you do here shapes how the rest get built.
THIS ROLE IS IDEAL FOR SOMEONE WHO
• Has closed. Three or more years selling B2B services or solutions where you carried a number and closed it yourself. Deals from $20,000 up to $500,000 with owners, partners, executives and operations leads is the right neighbourhood.
• Knows healthcare buyers. A strong plus, not a requirement. You've sold into small and mid-market healthcare organizations, practice groups, multi-location clinics, hospitals, health networks or healthcare brands, or you've worked inside one. If you know how those organizations buy and who signs, that helps.
• Still picks up the phone. You've cold called in the last twelve months and nobody had to talk you into it.
• Works a process. You keep a CRM current by habit. You've worked a defined sales process before and you understand why it exists.
• Can run the room. You can run a discovery call that a clinic owner leaves feeling understood, and present a marketing plan with projections without reading from the slide.
• Can talk the product. You can hold a 40-minute conversation about Google Ads, SEO, websites and CRMs. You won't be running campaigns, but you need to understand what we sell well enough to sell it honestly.
• Wants to be here. You live in or near Toronto and you're in the studio through your ramp. Hybrid and work-from-anywhere perks start after the first 90 days.
HOW WE SCALE A BUSINESS
It starts with an assessment. Before we recommend anything, we assess the business: the website, search visibility, ads, booking flow, CRM and tracking, scored against benchmarks from their category. The output is a plan with a roadmap and projections. That plan is what you present, and it's why prospects sign.
Then the work runs in five steps that feed each other. Foundation: the strategy, the roadmap and the numbers we're aiming at. Traffic: SEO and AI search visibility, media buying across Google, Meta, LinkedIn and the rest, and the ad creative that runs there. Convert: the website and landing pages, tested and improved so more of that traffic becomes a booked patient or an order. Sell: the CRM, speed-to-lead and follow-up so a new lead hears back in minutes. Measure: tracking that shows what every dollar did, so next month's decisions are made on data. Then back around.
You won't run any of that. You need to understand it well enough to diagnose a practice on a discovery call, explain why the plan looks the way it does, and hold your ground on the projections when the owner pushes back. You'll get certified on the assessment and the presentation before you touch a live lead, you'll sit in on strategy sessions, and you'll watch the plan get built and the results come back for the accounts you bring in. That's how you learn it.
You'll also become an expert in marketing healthcare brands, with our team behind you. That means knowing the rules: provincial college advertising standards, what Meta and Google allow in restricted health categories, PHIPA and PIPEDA, and what claims can and can't be made. A clinic owner has been burned by an agency that learned those rules on their dime, and the strategist who already knows them is the one they trust.
WHERE WE ARE ON TECHNOLOGY
We're early on most of what's changing in this industry, and we use it in the open. AI does the heavy data gathering in our assessments so our strategists spend their time on the interpretation. We get clients found inside ChatGPT, Perplexity and Google's AI answers, and we manage ad placements inside ChatGPT for clients who want them. Our CRM work is Zoho, built by our own certified team, with automations that answer a new lead in under a minute. The sales system you'll work in was built the same way, so your hours go to conversations. If you want to sell for a company that's ahead of the buyers it calls on, this is one.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Inbound
• Work every inbound lead from our healthcare campaigns inside the response times set in our CRM. Qualify it, book the discovery call, run the discovery call.
- Outbound
• Run outbound into the clinics, practice groups and healthcare brands we've targeted. Phone, email, LinkedIn, and follow-up on what our acquisition system has already put in front of them.
• In a slow inbound week you're on the phone with the target list. Commission on deals you source yourself pays a higher rate than commission on inbound. That's on purpose.
- Discovery, strategy and close
• Run our sales process from discovery through to the strategy presentation. You present the plan, handle the objections and ask for the business.
• Work with our strategy team on the assessment for every prospect you take to a presentation, so you know the plan you're presenting inside out and had a hand in building it.
- Pipeline and CRM
• Keep Zoho CRM accurate. Every lead, call, meeting, stage and note. Our pipeline reporting comes from what you log, and the system only works if you work it.
- Handoff and results
• Hand new clients to the account team through our kickoff process, then stay close to the account through its first 90 days so you see what the plan does and can speak to results on your next call.
- Market and events
• Represent the division at healthcare conferences and events when we exhibit.
• Bring back what you hear from the market: objections, competitors, pricing pressure, what practice owners are worried about this quarter.
WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR
• Hunger. You measure a week by what you put in the pipeline, not by how busy it felt.
• Curiosity about how a clinic makes money. That's where the best discovery calls come from.
• Coachability. You take a note mid-call and the next call is different.
• Plain speaking. You can explain a marketing plan to a practice owner without jargon.
• Appetite to become an expert. Healthcare marketing has rules most agencies don't know, and you'll be expected to learn them cold.
• Comfortable using AI as part of how you work. Our sales system is built on it.
SALARY RANGE
Base salary of $50,000 to $60,000 per year depending on experience, plus uncapped commission on every new client you close, paid the month after the client's first invoice clears, with a higher rate on deals you source yourself. Realistic on-target earnings are around $120,000, and there's no ceiling. A ramp bonus in your first three months, tied to activity, so you're earning while your first deals collect. The full commission plan is in writing before you sign.
PERKS
• Comprehensive health benefit package
• $1,000 annual education fund
• Awesome tech: MacBook, phone, etc.
• WFH (work from home) Thursday and Friday, after your first 90 days
• WFA (work from anywhere) winters, January to April, after your first 90 days
• Three weeks' vacation in your first year
HOW TO APPLY
Apply on this posting with your resume or LinkedIn profile. Skip the cover letter. Instead, tell us about two or three deals you personally closed: what you were selling, the deal size, whether you found the account or it came to you, what you did to get it over the line, and what you'd do differently. We care less about polish and more about evidence that you can find, work and close business.
INTERVIEW PROCESS
Application review, a 20-minute phone screen (week of September 21), a 45-minute interview with our President at Geary Avenue plus a working session with a role play and a short written exercise (week of September 28), then references and an offer in early October with the commission plan in writing. Start mid-October.
Consultus Digital is an equal opportunity employer, and we want the hiring process to be barrier-free. If you need an accommodation at any stage, tell us when you apply or at any point after, and we'll work with you to arrange it.
