Provides advanced knowledge of ICD-10, CPT, and HCPCS guidelines to ensure accuracy, compliance, and optimization of coding. Supports audits, resolves escalated cases, and contributes to process improvements. Essential Functions • Assigns accurate diagnoses and procedures for high-complexity outpatient encounters, including surgeries and interventional procedures based on clinical documentation in compliance with ICD-10-CM Official Coding Guidelines. • Maintains consistent achievement of departmental productivity and quality standards. • Utilizes encoder software efficiently to support accurate APC assignments. • Reviews clinical documentation for accuracy and clarity and initiates provider queries to resolve discrepancies or obtain missing information. • Resolves claims edits, addresses escalated coding issues, and manages payer rejections to ensure timely and accurate reimbursement. • Performs other duties as assigned. Education Requirement: High school diploma or equivalent; Associate’s or Bachelor’s in HIM preferred Experience Requirement: 3–5 years of progressively responsible outpatient coding experience An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered. All experience must be paid and in the same related field. Part-time and PRN experience will be prorated based on hours worked per week. Volunteer work and internships for academic credit are not counted. Certifications & Licensures: RHIA Certification, CPMA, Certified Coding Specialist (CCS),Certified Professional Coder (CPC), Certified Coding Specialist – Physician-based (CCS-P), Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT), or equivalent required.
