Role purpose

The Head of AI Delivery, Spain is responsible for leading and developing Sabio's AI delivery organisation across Spain. The role owns the successful delivery of AI solutions and products to Spanish customers, while building a high-performing and scalable delivery function capable of supporting future growth.

This is a senior leadership role combining operational management, people leadership, customer engagement and technical delivery oversight. The successful candidate will lead a team of more than 30 AI professionals through a structure of technical leads and delivery pods.

The role is the key link between AI Practice Leadership, the Spanish Operations Leadership Team, Product House, Programme Management and customer delivery teams. It ensures priorities are understood, blockers are resolved and technical delivery produces sustainable value for customers.

Role profile

This is not a senior project management role. We are looking for an established technology delivery leader who has led managers or technical leads, operated at scale and can provide credible direction to a multidisciplinary technical organisation.

Key Responsibilities

Delivery leadership
  • Own overall AI delivery performance across Spain, including quality, predictability, customer outcomes and delivery risk.
  • Ensure AI projects and product deployments are delivered to agreed scope, timescales, quality standards and commercial expectations.
  • Establish clear operational governance, reporting and delivery controls across the active portfolio.
  • Provide direction when projects encounter technical, operational or customer blockers, ensuring there is a clear recovery plan, named ownership and active follow-through.
  • Act as the senior escalation point for complex or high-risk customer delivery situations.
  • Create a culture of ownership, transparency and consistent execution across all delivery teams.
People and organisational leadership
  • Lead a team of more than 30 AI professionals through technical leads and small delivery pods.
  • Set clear accountabilities for technical leads and ensure the structure supports effective decision-making, coaching and delivery control.
  • Own performance management, objective setting, feedback and development across the Spanish AI delivery organisation.
  • Build succession plans and career pathways for technical specialists and future leaders.
  • Identify capability gaps and put practical development, recruitment or partner plans in place.
  • Maintain a sustainable working environment that balances customer commitments, delivery pressure and team wellbeing.
Technical leadership and capability
  • Provide credible technical leadership across AI delivery without needing to be the deepest specialist in every platform or discipline.
  • Work with technical leads to set and maintain appropriate engineering, architecture, quality and delivery standards.
  • Guide technical decision-making and challenge delivery approaches where risk, quality or maintainability are concerns.
  • Define a clear plan for developing the technical capability of individuals and teams.
  • Encourage consistent ways of working, knowledge sharing and reuse across delivery pods.
  • Keep the organisation aligned with relevant developments in AI technology, platforms and delivery methods.
Resource and operational management
  • Own resource planning across the Spanish AI delivery organisation, balancing committed work, pipeline demand, capability and available capacity.
  • Ensure the right skills and leadership are assigned to customer engagements.
  • Work with the Practice Director, AI on workforce planning, recruitment, partner demand, utilisation and delivery cost.
  • Identify capacity or capability constraints early and put realistic mitigation plans in place.
  • Provide clear operational reporting covering delivery health, resourcing, performance, risk and dependencies.
  • Improve the mechanisms and routines required to scale delivery without adding unnecessary management overhead.
Customer leadership
  • Build effective relationships with senior customer stakeholders and remain visible on important or high-risk engagements.
  • Ensure technical delivery teams understand customer goals, constraints and expected outcomes.
  • Participate in steering committees, executive reviews and recovery discussions where senior delivery leadership is required.
  • Lead difficult customer conversations clearly and constructively, including where decisions, dependencies or changes are needed.
  • Protect delivery credibility by ensuring commitments are realistic, understood and actively managed.
  • Identify opportunities to extend successful engagements where there is clear customer value and delivery capacity.
Product House and programme collaboration
  • Act as the key delivery link between Spain and Product House, ensuring product direction, release plans and customer delivery needs remain aligned.
  • Ensure Spanish delivery teams can deploy and support Product House capabilities effectively.
  • Provide structured feedback from customers and delivery teams into product priorities and readiness decisions.
  • Work alongside Programme Management to maintain clear plans, governance, reporting, dependencies and escalation routes.
  • Ensure programme and technical leadership operate as one team rather than through separate reporting lines or competing priorities.
Practice and regional leadership
  • Contribute to the overall leadership and operating plan of the AI Practice.
  • Represent AI delivery within the Spanish Operations Leadership Team and relevant regional governance forums.
  • Translate practice priorities into clear local actions, ownership and measures.
  • Support budgeting, forecasting, recruitment and growth planning for Spain.
  • Promote consistent delivery standards across Spain while working effectively with international and shared teams.

Skills Knowledge and Expertise

Essential experience
  • Proven experience leading a sizeable technology, engineering or professional services delivery organisation.
  • Experience managing managers, technical leads or team leaders, with accountability for a hierarchy rather than only individual contributors.
  • A track record of leading teams of approximately 30 or more people across multiple workstreams or customer engagements.
  • Strong experience delivering complex enterprise technology programmes or products in customer environments.
  • Clear evidence of improving delivery performance, resolving escalations and recovering projects that were off track.
  • Experience of workforce planning, resource allocation, performance management and capability development.
  • Confidence working with senior customer stakeholders, executive sponsors and steering committees.
  • Commercial awareness, including utilisation, delivery cost, margin, scope control and the impact of delivery decisions.
  • Fluent English and Spanish, written and spoken.
Technical and sector experience
  • Enough technical depth to lead experienced engineers and technical leads credibly, ask the right questions and assess delivery risk.
  • Experience in AI, automation, conversational AI, data, software engineering, contact centre technology or related digital platforms.
  • Understanding of modern software delivery, architecture, engineering quality and operational support considerations.
  • Experience working in a matrixed or international organisation with shared product, engineering and delivery functions.
  • Experience scaling teams or improving an operating model during a period of growth or change is desirable.
Leadership approach
  • Provides clear direction and holds people accountable without creating unnecessary process.
  • Can move between customer, operational, people and technical discussions comfortably.
  • Makes decisions with incomplete information and is transparent about assumptions and risk.
  • Develops leaders underneath them rather than becoming the decision point for every issue.
  • Communicates clearly, reports honestly and raises concerns early.
  • Balances growth ambition with delivery capacity, quality and team sustainability.
Measures of success

The successful candidate will be expected to make measurable progress across the following areas during their first 12 months:
  • Improved delivery predictability, quality and customer confidence across the Spanish AI portfolio.
  • A clear and effective leadership structure across technical leads and delivery pods.
  • Consistent performance management, development plans and succession coverage for critical roles.
  • Better visibility and control of capacity, capability, utilisation and demand.
  • Fewer avoidable escalations and faster recovery when delivery problems occur.
  • A strong working relationship between Spain, Product House, Programme Management and the wider AI Practice.
  • A delivery organisation that can support growth without compromising quality, customer outcomes or employee wellbeing.
