Head of Content
(Unpaid / Equity share)
** This is an unpaid opportunity; the right candidate will be rewarded with a meaningful equity stake in PayBuddy Pty Ltd based on their contributions and successful completion of deliverables.
About PayBuddy
PayBuddy is a consumer mobile app that helps people stay on top of their recurring payments. Our assets include an extensively iterated high-resolution Figma prototype, in-depth market and user research, clear growth and marketing plans, and a $5M+ pre-launch valuation with active capital-raising plans.
Role Overview
We are seeking a Head of Content to join our team on a part-time basis (approximately 15–20 hours per week), fully remote and Australia-based.
As our content leader, you will own PayBuddy's voice, tone, and written experience end-to-end, set our content strategy, and build and lead the content team. You will take particular ownership of the content for a key product feature — spanning written, video, and visual content — crafted to guide users through an important task quickly and confidently. This is content designed to move users to action, so it demands clarity, concision, and trust.
This is a rare opportunity to establish and lead the content function for a validated consumer FinTech product — shaping its voice and building the content that brings the product to life.
** This is an unpaid opportunity; however, the right candidate will be rewarded with a meaningful equity stake in PayBuddy based on their contributions and successful completion of deliverables. Specific equity terms will be discussed during the interview process.
Why Join PayBuddy?
- Content Autonomy & Ownership: You won't just execute; you will define. We have an extensive high-resolution prototype, validated user research, and a clear path to revenue. You own our content strategy, voice, and tone from day one.
- Real Product, Not Vaporware: We solve genuine, widely reported consumer financial pain points. You are building a durable, scalable FinTech product that serves real market demand, not riding an AI hype cycle.
- Practical AI Application: We treat AI as an acceleration tool, not a buzzword. You'll have scope to integrate AI where it creates measurable product value, ensuring you grow your skills on a live, high-impact application.
- Collaborative Leadership: Join a multi-disciplinary team with deep experience in FinTech, Banking, Marketing, Design and Product. We value pragmatic, secure, and user-centric development.
- Significant Equity Stake: As a foundational hire, your contribution is rewarded with meaningful equity—not just a seat at the table, but a stake in the company's success.
** This is an unpaid opportunity; the right candidate will be rewarded with a meaningful equity stake in PayBuddy Pty Ltd based on their contributions and successful completion of deliverables.
Role Responsibilities
As Head of Content at PayBuddy, your role is to own our content strategy and lead the content experience across the product — written and multimedia. To be considered, please review the responsibilities and skills below:
- Own PayBuddy's content strategy, voice and tone, terminology glossary, and content style guide end-to-end
- Lead the content for a key product feature — spanning different formats
- Build, hire, and mentor the content team across UX writing and multimedia (video and visual) content, setting quality standards and running content reviews
- Establish an efficient, AI-augmented content workflow to produce, test, and iterate on content — across formats — responsibly, accurately, and on-brand
- Partner with the Head of Product, CTO, and Design team to align content with product and design throughout the build
- Plan and apply user research to content decisions, including testing copy variations with users
- Own compliance, regulatory, and accessibility considerations for financial product copy in Australia (ASIC, AFCA, Privacy Act, Australian Consumer Law)
- Represent content in leadership discussions and feed into product and go-to-market decisions
Key Skills
- 5+ years' experience as a Content Designer, UX Writer, or content lead on digital products, including experience leading content for a product team
- Proven ownership of voice and tone, terminology glossaries, and content style guides
- Demonstrated experience defining content standards AND managing, directing, or mentoring other content contributors
- A portfolio demonstrating clear, user-centred writing on complex or sensitive flows (e.g. financial, healthcare, legal, account lifecycle, support)
- Experience planning and directing content across multiple formats — including video and visual/instructional content — not writing alone
- Experience writing for FinTech, banking, insurance, or another regulated industry
- Awareness of Australian regulatory considerations affecting financial product content (e.g. ASIC, AFCA, Privacy Act, Australian Consumer Law language)
- Comfortable working in Figma and FigJam, annotating copy within design files, and collaborating asynchronously
- Demonstrated ability to use AI content tools — for writing and, ideally, media — to produce, test, and scale content responsibly without compromising quality or brand voice
Bonus Skills (not mandatory but valued)
- Experience building or leading a content function from scratch
- Experience producing or directing video and visual/instructional content for a consumer product
- Experience writing for high-intent, action-oriented flows in a consumer product (e.g. onboarding, checkout, or account actions)
- Experience contributing to design systems, including content patterns and component-level guidelines
- Familiarity with Australian Open Banking (Consumer Data Right / CDR) and the language used around financial data sharing
- Experience establishing AI-augmented content workflows — using AI tools to produce, test, and iterate faster across formats
Who You Are
- A confident content leader with a strong point of view on voice, tone, and accessibility
- A multi-format content leader
- An empathetic writer who understands that financial decisions are personal and emotionally loaded
- A mentor and team-builder who enjoys helping less experienced designers grow
- A collaborator comfortable working alongside a Founder with a clear product vision and business model
- Strategic, pragmatic, and outcome-driven
Important Note
** This is an unpaid opportunity; however, the right candidate will be rewarded with a meaningful equity stake in PayBuddy based on their substantial contributions and successful completion of deliverables. PayBuddy currently holds a pre-launch valuation of $5 million, and we have active plans to raise capital. Specific equity terms will be confirmed during the interview process.
