Position Overview

LEGO Digital Play will bring the LEGO® brand into digital entertainment in new, innovative, and wholly-owned ways. Our mission is to ensure the LEGO brand remains as powerfully a part of children’s lives in the coming decades as it has ever been. We aim to reach every kid on the planet, their parents, and adult fans - and provide them with meaningful, magical, and playful new experiences.

We are at an early phase of this new company, offering a unique opportunity to build a new entity for the world's most beloved and trusted brand. Our culture is open, collaborative, intellectually rigorous, and creatively vibrant.

We are looking for a Head of Data Platform to build and lead the data function at LEGO Digital Play. You will be the executive leader of how data is collected, governed and deployed across the company: from the infrastructure and conventions game teams build on, to the reporting, analytics and insight that product, marketing, finance and leadership rely on to make decisions.

You will grow a multidisciplinary team across data engineering, BI, analytics, data science and data product, and develop the leaders within it. You will set the standards that keep data consistent, trustworthy and compliant from source to dashboard, with privacy as a non-negotiable, and designed in from the start. You have built a data organisation from an early stage before, and you are equally at home in an architecture review and in an executive discussion about priorities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Define the long-term vision and strategy for data across the organisation, collaborating with executive product, engineering, marketing, and business leadership on how data informs product, business and compliance decisions

  • Build and lead a multidisciplinary organisation spanning data engineering, BI, data science and data product, hiring and developing its leaders

  • Own the data platform end to end, including its tooling and vendor strategy and budget: ingestion, streaming and batch pipelines, warehouse, held to clear reliability, freshness and cost targets

  • Collaborate with product and analytics leadership on organisation-wide data conventions: event taxonomy, schemas, data contracts, semantic layer, KPI definitions and a single source of truth adopted by game teams

  • Embed privacy by design and data governance, including consent, age-appropriate data handling, retention, access controls and data subject rights, in partnership with legal, security and trust & safety

  • Build and provision self-serve data access, analytics, experimentation and data science capabilities so product, live-ops, marketing, finance and leadership can answer their own questions and act on the evidence

  • Make product and revenue data finance-grade: reliable feeds into financial reporting systems, reconciliation against store and payment provider data, multi-currency and FX handling, and the controls finance needs to rely on it

  • Collaborate with product, marketing, and analytics functions on data modelling foundations for user acquisition, including attribution and MMP integration, cohort, LTV and ROAS modelling, and the analytics that guide spend optimisation

Qualifications

Must Have:

  • Substantial experience leading data platform, data engineering and analytics organisations, including building one from an early stage

  • A track record of leading through other leaders across engineering, BI/analytics and data science disciplines

  • Deep technical fluency in modern data architecture (cloud warehouses, streaming and batch processing, data modelling, semantic layers, data quality) and the judgment to evaluate and challenge technical designs

  • Experience running data governance and privacy programmes under data protection regulation such as GDPR and COPPA

  • Credibility with a data-fluent executive team: able to go deep on player, product, and business performance, and to turn shared priorities into platform and team investments

  • Experience owning budgets and vendor relationships for data infrastructure and tooling

  • Fluency in how live games are measured and run: engagement, retention, monetisation, and live-ops KPIs, and the analytics that inform them

  • Working depth in user acquisition analytics: attribution and MMPs, LTV and ROAS modelling, and data-driven spend optimisation

  • Experience delivering finance-grade data: revenue reporting, reconciliation between product, store and financial systems, and audit-ready controls

Nice to Have:

  • Experience in mobile games and platforms specifically

  • Experience with products for children or family audiences

  • Experience with the Google Cloud data stack (BigQuery, Dataflow, Pub/Sub, Looker)

  • Experience with experimentation platforms and applied machine learning in production

  • Time in a licensed or brand-owned portfolio
