Head of Engineering

Fit4Me is looking for a Head of Engineering / Head of Development to take ownership of our technology direction and become a key partner to Product and Business as we enter the next stage of growth.

Your scope will cover the entire technology side of the product — from architecture and engineering delivery to reliability, infrastructure, and team development. You’ll define how our technology evolves as the product grows.

You’ll work directly with the CEO and Head of Product, shape the technology strategy, grow the Engineering team, and have a direct impact on delivery speed, product stability, and our ability to scale the business.

Your Impact:
1. Technology Strategy & Architecture

• Own the product’s end-to-end technology architecture across web, backend, mobile, infrastructure, and integrations.
• Shape the technology roadmap and make architectural decisions that balance scalability, reliability, speed, and cost.
• Manage technical debt and bottlenecks that impact product stability, development speed, and scalability.

2. Engineering Delivery & Excellence

• Build engineering processes that enable fast, high-quality, and predictable delivery.
• Set and evolve engineering standards across the development lifecycle, code quality, releases, monitoring, and incident management.
• Improve Engineering efficiency through tooling, automation, AI, and continuous process improvement.

3. Product & Business Leadership

• Lead and grow the Engineering team, building clear ownership and accountability across the function.
• Partner directly with the CEO and Head of Product on the roadmap, priorities, and key product and technology decisions.
• Balance business priorities, technical needs, and team capacity, taking ownership of Engineering outcomes.

What we expect from you:

• 5+ years of experience in software engineering, including 1+ year as a Head of Engineering, Head of Development, VP Engineering, CTO, or in a role with a similar scope of responsibility.
• Experience leading an Engineering team of 10+ people, including team structure, priorities, performance, development, and hiring.
• Strong architectural expertise in high-load web services: modular monoliths / microservices, API design, queues, caching, idempotency, and webhook patterns.
• Strong Node.js background with the technical depth to make architectural decisions, challenge solutions, and review complex technical designs.
• Hands-on experience with AWS and modern infrastructure practices: IaC (Terraform / Ansible), CI/CD (GitHub Actions), secrets management (Vault), monitoring, and alerting (Prometheus / Grafana).
• Deep experience with PostgreSQL and MongoDB: schema design, indexing, performance, and replication, including hands-on experience migrating a production system from NoSQL to SQL without downtime.
• Strong understanding of subscription and payment architecture across web and mobile: recurring payments, webhooks, trials, introductory pricing, refunds, chargebacks, payment providers, and Apple / Google In-App Purchases.
• Solid understanding of mobile architecture and iOS / Android release processes, as well as product analytics, event tracking, attribution, and data consistency between billing and analytics.
• Strong engineering practices across code review, testing, feature flags, staged rollouts, security, access management, and GDPR, with the ability to write clear technical specifications and design docs.
• Strong ability to make technical decisions by balancing speed, quality, scalability, cost, and business impact.
• English B2+ for working with the team, partners, and technical documentation.

Nice to have:

• Experience with web-to-app products and a strong understanding of subscription funnels.
• Experience in Health & Fitness / Wellness or other high-volume subscription verticals.
• Proven experience scaling technology alongside rapid growth in traffic, users, or revenue.
• Experience using AI in software development and engineering processes to improve team speed and efficiency.

• A clear technology strategy and roadmap are in place, aligned with Product and Business goals and clearly understood by the Engineering team.
• Architecture and infrastructure are ready to scale with product, traffic, and revenue growth, with key technical risks and bottlenecks identified and under control.
• Engineering operates with speed and predictability, with clear priorities, ownership, engineering standards, and consistent delivery.
• The Engineering team is stronger and more autonomous, with clear areas of responsibility, decisions made at the right level, and no dependency on a single person.
• Engineering becomes a true partner to Product and Business, with technical decisions balancing speed, quality, scalability, cost, and business impact.
