Head of Engineering (f/m/d)

To support the growth of our organization, we are looking for a Head of Engineering (f/m/d) who combines strong technical leadership with a passion for building scalable digital platforms and high-performing engineering teams. In this role, you will lead the technical strategy, engineering organization, and software delivery processes of our growing GovTech platform. Working closely with Product, AI, Governance, and executive leadership, you will help shape the technical foundation of next-generation digital public services while driving engineering excellence, scalability, and innovation. Define and drive the overall engineering strategy aligned with company and product goals Lead, mentor, and grow interdisciplinary engineering teams in a fast-scaling startup environment Establish scalable software architecture, development standards, and engineering best practices Oversee software delivery processes and ensure high-quality, secure, and maintainable product development Collaborate closely with Product, AI, Governance, and Operations teams to align technical implementation with business and user needs Support hiring, onboarding, and development of engineering talent across the organization Drive agile engineering processes, technical planning, and delivery optimization Ensure platform scalability, system reliability, security, and operational excellence Contribute to strategic technology decisions, infrastructure planning, and long-term platform evolution Foster a strong engineering culture focused on collaboration, ownership, continuous improvement, and innovation Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Systems, or a related field Several years of experience in software engineering leadership roles, ideally within SaaS, platform, AI, or GovTech environments Strong technical background in modern software architectures, cloud technologies, and scalable application development Experience leading and growing high-performing engineering teams Strong understanding of agile software delivery and engineering operations Ability to balance strategic thinking with hands-on technical leadership Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills across technical and non-technical teams Experience working in fast-paced and evolving startup or scale-up environments Interest in AI-driven products, digital public services, and large-scale digital transformation Fluent English skills; German is a strong plus Attractive above-average compensation package State-of-the-art IT equipment enabling flexible hybrid working worldwide — from home, our Berlin office, or on-site with partners Centrally located offices with access to the unique ThinkTank Campus in Berlin-Wannsee Comfortable travel policy as well as free snacks and beverages in our offices Flat hierarchies, fast decision-making, and room for your own ideas International team spirit with recognition of both collective and individual successes Early responsibility and strategic influence from day one Structured onboarding with a buddy and experienced mentor Continuous training programs and regular development discussions Join Verwaltungssprung and become part of a mission-driven team building the future of digital public services.
