Head of Finance - Gaming Agency and Publisher

We’re looking for a full time head of finance to help strengthen the financial foundation of VAL, which has been in operation for 10 years.

This is an all remote role.

Candidates must be located in Canada.

We are looking for someone who has a heart for team dynamics.

The Virtual Athletics League (VAL) is an both startup, leading agency in the VR space, and a publisher. We have the same network of investors who backed Tesla, Hotmail, and Skype.

We have worked directly with Meta on many supported projects including some of the most high profile in VR. Previously we have worked with Nerf, The Walking Dead, Metro, Alien, Hello Neighbor, and others like Gorilla Tag.

The ideal candidate has financial clarity, structure, and judgment while also helping mentor the team and experience in pricing and building robust invoice collection systems.

This is a leadership role.

The ideal person has experience in gaming agencies, service businesses project-based or retainer-based revenue environments companies.

We are looking for someone with a keen eye for cash flow, forecasting, margins, and operational decision-making.

Core job duties

Building and improving core financial structures, reporting, and forecasting

Helping ensure the company has the right finance systems and rhythms in place

Advising on cash flow, budgeting, profitability, and planning

Bringing sharper visibility into margins, revenue quality, and financial decision-making

Supporting leadership with strategic financial thinking, not just historical reporting

Mentoring internal team members and helping improve finance-related accountability and maturity

Identifying gaps, weak spots, and opportunities in our current finance operations

Leadership coaching, hiring and other people management skills

High level taxes, regulation, funding and similar crucial operations.

What we’re looking for

Significant experience in at least some senior level financial position or even front line management role.

Strong command of financial planning, cash flow management, forecasting, and operational finance

Ability to work well in an entrepreneurial environment.

Someone practical, direct, and capable of building order without creating unnecessary bureaucracy

Forecasting experience and ability especially in agencies, gaming and live ops.

Minimum of one previous role with direct reports supervision/team management.

Pay is 120,000-140,000 CAD per year depending on experience. This role starts on a four month initial contract with potential conversion to our EOR/Canadian legal entity.
