Show job description

Step into a role where your leadership and security expertise contribute to work that genuinely matters. In this role, you will be a key member of our Leadership team, shaping the future of Nuclear Security while influencing decisions at the highest levels of the business. At EDF, success is personal and we will support you to build a career that is meaningful to you.

The Opportunity

As Head of Nuclear Security, you will join our Nuclear Services business – our technical centre of excellence, which supports our fleet of nuclear power stations and our nuclear new-build projects. You will lead the security function, work with the other delivery functions and with the Licensees providing direction, oversight and assurance across a business that supports some of the UK’s most important energy programmes.

Alongside a competitive salary and potential for annual bonus, this role is based at Gloucester Business Park, with the expectation to work in the office a minimum of 2 days per week, alongside visits to other nuclear sites on a weekly basis. You will be part of a collaborative leadership team, helping to shape strategy while maintaining the highest standards of security and compliance.

Your expertise will guide the business through complex regulatory requirements, strengthen security governance and build trusted relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including regulators, industry wide experts and government bodies.

Who You Are

We are looking for a Head of Nuclear Security who can inspire, lead and ensure security compliance within our organisation. Are you experienced in…?

  • Effective people management, maintaining an inclusive stance where you can inspire change and lead with confidence
  • Strong Stakeholder Management at all levels, both with internal executives and external stakeholders such as regulators, public sector and government officials
  • Operating at executive level, interacting with leaders across functions, business areas and sites
  • Proven delivery in agile environments
  • Relevant security legislation and high-risk security operations
  • Working in a highly regulated industry, developing and implementing organisation-wide security strategies
  • Commerciality and budget responsibilities

To be appointed to this role, you will need to meet the criteria for Developed Vetting (DV) clearance, which will, ordinarily, require you to have British residency for the last five years. You will also need to undertake an emergency scheme role, where you may be required to be located closer to our central Gloucester office.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Leading and managing the Nuclear Security team, including professionals from Cyber and physical security, creating a culture of accountability, development and continuous improvement
  • Accountability for delivery of the strategic business priorities
  • Ensuring security activities are delivered in line with site licence requirements, statutory regulations and company procedures
  • Providing security oversight and assurance across Nuclear Services operations and projects
  • Building effective relationships with regulators, government bodies and senior business stakeholders
  • Working closely with security teams across the operational nuclear fleet and nuclear new-build programmes to maintain consistent standards and best practice
  • Working with the delivery functions in Nuclear Services leading the business

Pay, Benefits and Culture

Alongside a competitive salary, potential for an annual bonus and a market-leading pension scheme, your package will include customisable benefits such as electric vehicle leasing, discounted gym membership, life assurance, tech vouchers, experience days and more.

At EDF, we believe there are multiple definitions of what it means to succeed. That is why we offer you the freedom to develop a career that is unique to you. Here, success is personal – it is your journey, powered by us.
