Is this job info correct?

We’ve never been ‘just a bank’. Just like you should never be ‘just an employee’. We’re united in our belief that in banking, better can be bigger, and together we’re making it happen.

It starts here. With Bendigo Bank… and you.

Come and be part of our specialist Group Risk function. As we continue to mature our enterprise-wide capabilities, this is a high-visibility, senior leadership opportunity to provide strategic direction, intellectual rigour, and effective challenge to shape and elevate the bank’s risk culture and behavioural standards.

We are currently recruiting an influential, forward-thinking leader to join our Enterprise Risk team as the Head of Risk Culture.

About the role

Reporting directly to the General Manager, Enterprise Risk, the Head of Risk Culture is a pivotal Second Line of Accountability (2LOA) leadership role. Bridging the critical intersection between governance frameworks and human behaviour, you will be responsible for translating complex behavioural diagnostics into actionable strategic roadmaps that uplift organisational resilience and performance.

Under your leadership, the Risk Culture function operates an integrated, three-pronged approach: leading enterprise-wide Risk Culture Maturity Assessments, executing targeted Risk Culture Deep Dives, and partnering with business leaders to drive systemic Risk Culture Action Plans.

Key accountabilities include:

  • Best Practice Framework: Ensure the overall risk culture framework and approach evolve and aligns with industry best practice.
  • Risk Culture Maturity Assessments: Architect and govern the enterprise-wide risk culture assessment framework, embedding cultural baselines seamlessly into the bank's broader risk maturity methodology and executive scorecards.
  • Independent Line 2 Deep Dives: Direct the scoping and execution of independent behavioural reviews into areas of heightened risk, linking observed behaviours directly to control environments and customer outcomes.
  • Behavioural Interventions & Action Plans: Partner across the business with Executive leaders, P&C, and divisional risk champions to co-design and govern targeted behavioural interventions, leadership initiatives, and specialised training programs.
  • Executive & Board Governance: Synthesise qualitative narratives and quantitative risk metrics into compelling, thematic reporting for the Chief Risk Officer, Executive Risk Committee, Board Risk Committee, and the Board.
  • Regulatory Requirements: Serve as the primary 2LOA subject matter expert for regulatory engagements and inquiries relating to risk culture, ensuring our risk culture framework proactively reflect evolving APRA expectations (e.g., CPS 220)
  • Team Leadership & Capability Uplift: Build, coach, and mentor a specialist team, uplifting technical capabilities in behavioural analytics, diagnostic interviewing, and executive-level advisory.

What you’ll bring to the role

Essential:

  • Domain Leadership: Proven track record in a senior leadership role overseeing risk culture, behavioural risk, organisational psychology, or risk governance within a complex financial services or regulated environment.
  • Methodological Depth: Extensive hands-on experience designing and delivering large-scale culture assessments, behavioural root-cause analyses, and deep dives.
  • Executive Gravitas & Influence: Exceptional stakeholder management and communication skills, with the credibility, emotional intelligence, and diplomacy required to navigate sensitive behavioural dialogues with C-suite executives and Board members.
  • Regulatory Fluency: Deep familiarity with APRA prudential standards and regulatory expectations relating to risk governance, culture, and accountability (including CPS 220).

Highly desirable:

  • A bachelor’s degree in business, Law, Organisational Psychology, Behavioural Science or a related discipline.
  • Postgraduate qualifications (e.g., Master's, Organisational Psychology registration, or MBA) are highly regarded.
  • Experience integrating behavioural diagnostics with quantitative data analytics and enterprise risk metrics.
