Job Summary
At Key Bank, our client relationships are our top priority. We are looking for motivated Head of Strategic Account Management for Merchant. The Head of Strategic Account Management for Merchant will manage team of Strategic Account Managers, providing oversight of the enterprise customer segment within the merchant function.

The objective is not simply to add leadership capacity, but the expectation is that this role reshapes our Strategic Account Management model, driving both direct performance improvements and broader capability uplift across the team. Key measures we would track include:

  • Increase in proactive client engagement activity (planned outreach, executive touchpoints, portfolio reviews)
  • Improvement in client retention / attrition rates
  • Growth in SAMM-managed revenue and processing volume
  • Increased Banker engagement and cross-sell/referral generation
  • Improved client satisfaction and escalation management metrics
  • Development and adoption of a more consistent SAMM operating model across the organization
  • This Leader should generate measurable revenue lift over time through improved retention, expansion, and portfolio management.

Essential Functions

  • Lead and manage the Strategic Account Management team who support large accounts within the designated product function.
  • Help to define and execute enterprise product strategy to deliver innovative, competitive solutions for Commercial Bank clients, including large client engagement & customer experience strategy.
  • Own client P&L and ensure profitability targets are met.
  • Drive business development initiatives and support client acquisition efforts, including providing solutions oversight to existing clients.
  • Collaborate with internal partners (finance, technology, operations, sales, marketing, legal, compliance) and external vendors.
  • Champion change and foster a culture of teamwork and innovation.
  • Monitor market trends and macroeconomic factors to inform product strategy.
  • Represent KeyBank at industry events and client meetings; deliver executive-level presentations.

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in business or related field (required).
  • Equivalent work experience may be considered.

Work Experience

  • 10+ years of experience in financial services Payments/Treasury Management, focused in Merchant services. Banking industry experience preferred.
  • Minimum 2 years experience in client management function

Skills

  • Entrepreneurial mindset with ability to identify opportunities and implement strategic plans.
  • Technical expertise in payments/merchant space - specifically around large client technology and customer experience needs
  • Direct client P&L responsibility experience.
  • Strong analytical and forecasting skills; excellent problem-solving and quantitative abilities.
  • Exceptional communication skills; ability to present to executives and industry audiences.
  • Proven ability to build collaborative relationships across internal and external stakeholders.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office; data query and reporting knowledge.
  • Ability to champion change, influence others, and foster teamwork.

Physical Demands

  • General office environment: Prolonged sitting, ability to communicate face-to-face in person or on the phone with teammates and clients, frequent use of PC/laptop, occasional lifting/pushing/pulling of backpacks, computer bags up to 10 lbs.

  • May need to travel to corporate office or for industry conferences

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS

This position is eligible to earn a base salary in the range of $128,000.00 - $268,000.00 annually. Placement within the pay range may differ based upon various factors, including but not limited to skills, experience and geographic location. Compensation for this role also includes eligibility for incentive compensation which may include production, commission, and/or discretionary incentives.
