We are looking for a Health and Wellbeing Specialist to support the delivery of our Health and Wellbeing Strategy by helping to identify, assess and manage occupational health risks across the business.

Working closely with Occupational Health, Health & Safety, HR and operational teams, you will take a proactive and collaborative approach to improving workplace health and wellbeing. This is not a transactional role, you will work with stakeholders to develop solutions and joint action plans that support both employee wellbeing and business objectives.

The role will focus on occupational health risk management, including the identification of workplace hazards, the assessment of both physical and psychosocial risks, and the recommendation of appropriate controls and reasonable adjustments. Using your expertise as an allied health professional, e.g. accredited BOHS Occupational Hygienist, vocational rehabilitation specialist or Occupational Health Physiotherapist, you will support informed decision making and help drive a preventative approach to workplace health across the organisation.

This role will involve regular travel across our network, working directly with colleagues and stakeholder. While there is flexibility to manage your own diary and some hybrid working is available, this will be a hands-on role that requires a significant presence in the organisation.

The successful candidate will be an accredited BOHS Occupational Hygienist with strong relationship building skills, a solutions focused mindset, and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of stakeholders to improve health and wellbeing outcomes across the organisation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct occupational hygiene assessments, monitoring and risk analysis to identify health risks and provide expert advice.
  • Collaborate with Occupational Health, Health & Safety and external providers to develop health surveillance programmes and effective risk controls.
  • Build strong relationships across the business to develop practical, evidence-based solutions that improve employee health and wellbeing.
  • Support the delivery of health and wellbeing projects, communications, training and awareness campaigns on topics such as COSHH, noise, stress and fatigue management.
  • Develop KPIs, analyse data and produce reports to measure performance, demonstrate impact and drive continuous improvement.
  • Contribute to the Mental Health First Aider programme and support initiatives that promote an inclusive and healthy workplace.
  • Keep up to date with relevant legislation and best practice, representing the organisation at industry networks and forums where appropriate.

Skills, Knowledge and Expertise

  • Will be an accredited allied workplace health professional.
  • Experience of managing health and wellbeing programmes across diverse and geographically dispersed workforces.
  • Strong knowledge of health risk management, monitoring and evidence-based interventions.
  • Ability to measure impact, analyse data and demonstrate return on investment.
  • Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills, with the ability to influence at all levels.
  • Resilient, professional and able to make sound, evidence based decisions in complex situations.
  • Collaborative and proactive, with the confidence to challenge constructively and drive accountability.
  • Proficient with reporting, analytical and IT skills, with the ability to translate data to inform on health risks.
To ensure continuity and an effective delivery of service, successful candidates will be required to commit to a minimum 14-month period in role after achieving competence. This also includes existing colleagues who move by internal promotions and transfers. This time allows our future colleagues to support personal career development by allowing time to build strong knowledge and expertise.

  • A defined benefit pension from day 1 – one of the best in the UK.
  • Free travel on all London Northwestern Railway and West Midlands Railway services for you, your spouse/partner, and dependents.
