Healthcare Administrative Specialist

Location: Remote (United States)

Engagement Type: Hourly Contract

Compensation: $40–$50/hour

About the Opportunity

This opportunity is for experienced Healthcare Administrative and Operations professionals with hands-on expertise in the back-office workflows that support medical practices, hospitals, and health plans.

The role focuses on applying real-world healthcare administrative experience across patient access, prior authorizations, claims, revenue cycle operations, provider enrollment, payer operations, and health information management.

This is a healthcare administrative and operational role — not a medical coding or clinical care position.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage and evaluate patient registration, scheduling, insurance eligibility verification, benefits interpretation, intake, and referral workflows.
  • Support prior authorization processes, including initiating, submitting, tracking, and resolving authorization requests through payer portals.
  • Handle claims and revenue cycle workflows, including claim submission, status tracking, denials, appeals, A/R follow-up, and rejection resolution.
  • Review remittance and payment workflows, including Electronic Remittance Advice (ERA), payment posting, and reconciliation.
  • Support provider and payer operations, including credentialing, provider enrollment, payer configuration, appeals, grievances, and member/provider services.
  • Manage health information workflows, medical records administration, release of information, and day-to-day practice operations.
  • Apply hands-on knowledge of healthcare systems and administrative workflows to support high-quality project outcomes.

Required Qualifications

  • 3+ years of daily, hands-on experience in a healthcare administrative, operational, or back-office role.
  • Currently working in a healthcare administrative role.
  • Direct experience with healthcare administrative systems, including payer portals, EHR/practice-management platforms, and/or clearinghouses.
  • Experience with platforms such as Availity, Optum/Change Healthcare, Waystar, Office Ally, UHC Link, BCBS, Aetna, or comparable payer systems.
  • Strong understanding of healthcare administrative workflows, documentation, and operational processes.
  • Excellent attention to detail, problem-solving, and written communication skills.
  • Must be based in the United States.

Ideal Backgrounds

Relevant professional backgrounds may include:

  • Practice Administrator / Medical Office Manager
  • Revenue Cycle Specialist / RCM Analyst
  • Medical Billing Coordinator / Full-Cycle Biller
  • Patient Access Lead / Intake / Referral Coordinator
  • Prior Authorization Specialist
  • Denials / Claims Resolution Specialist
  • Credentialing / Provider Enrollment Specialist
  • Health Plan / Payer Operations Specialist
  • Health Information Management (HIM) / Medical Records Administrator

Compensation

  • Competitive compensation of $40–$50/hour.
  • Weekly payments.
  • Independent contractor engagement.
