Job Description - HIM Technician - WK & Day Shift (240000OZ) Job Description HIM Technician - WK & Day Shift - ( 240000OZ ) Description Job Summary Under general supervision of Director/Manager/Supervisor, following established policies, procedures and professional guidelines, performs health information activities necessary to organize, maintain and use electronic and paper patient health records. Depending on area assigned, may specialize in one or more technical functions including: maintenance of records in centralized location; indexing, scanning, and validating; electronic and physical chart retrieval; reconciling medical record activity. Accesses and updates electronic tracking systems. Answers telephones and assists with continuity of care requests for medical records, and the patient portal. Understands chart organization and content, TGH and external requirements related to chart documentation and privacy. Responsible for performing job duties in accordance with mission, vision and values of Tampa General Hospital. Qualifications High School Diploma or G.E.D. One (1) year of customer service experience. Knowledge and competencies in Health Information Practices and Technologies, including medical terminology. Applied analytical skills. Advanced problem-solving skills. Wide-range attention to detail. Strong professional customer service and communication skills. Proficiency with basic computer programs and intermediate keyboarding skills. Detailed knowledge of medical record content and regulatory standards for documentation and privacy. Preferred: Some college, preferably Health Information Management or Health Information Technology, Informatics or Management degree. Experience Medical Records or Health Information-related department, preferably hospital. Knowledge of hospital computer systems and electronic medical records, preferably Epic and/or OnBase.
