HORTICULTURE SUPERVISOR Location: Rome Office / Hybrid Contract Type: permanent Salary: Circa EUR 41k gross annual Hours: Full Time 35 hours per week Main tasks and responsibilities •Uphold the Commission’s horticultural standards in the region. •Schedule and conduct regular inspection visits to Commission cemeteries and memorials to ensure that appropriate management and horticultural standards are maintained; assess and report on key performance indicators (KPIs) for horticultural standards; and ensure that operational structures, procedures and practices are worthwhile. •Share technical expertise and information with the whole area and the Estates department •Carry out horticultural projects in accordance with the Area Management Plan. •Draw up, negotiate, conclude and manage maintenance agreements with contractors to ensure the upkeep of Commission cemeteries and memorials. •Manage the horticultural maintenance programme and the contractual maintenance agreements in accordance with the operational control. •Develop nature conservation/landscape management plans in close collaboration with other team members •Estimate the activities of the Agency, if necessary, and report annually on the activities. •Ensure that the groups have equipment, machinery and plant material and that the needs of the sector are included in the annual estimates to evaluate new products and procedures. •Work together with the construction department and senior head gardeners to coordinate structural and horticultural maintenance programmes. Project responsibilities •Ensure that the Commission is acknowledged and represented in the preparation of ceremonial events in the area. •Develop and maintain a sustainable partnership between relevant stakeholders for consultation and cooperation, so that the objectives can be achieved in the best possible way. Finance & Risk Management •Manage and monitor the delegated budget, prepare estimates, submit monthly/quarterly expenditure reports in line with business objectives to ensure horticultural programmes. Requisites • Bachelor or Master's degree in agriculture or landscape/garden architecture or equivalent technical knowledge acquired through professional qualification or a specific university degree in one or more relevant disciplines and/or demonstrable work experience •Designing and visualising a layout plan and familiarity with the usual drawing programmes. •Social and communication skills You connect easily with owners and are able to give them information and inspire them •You have strong organisational skills and are able to oversee design projects. Business expertise •You understand how the department works and how it interacts with other departments in the area. -Leadership •Manage the performance, development and standards of conduct for employees reporting to the position and oversee the performance management of the wider regional team by delegation. Identify training needs for the entire workforce and highlight any skills gaps. •Establish and manage the training requirements for the region with the help of the Hort Manager •Provide training to maintain and improve staff skills. Organise regular team meetings to keep staff informed of all aspects of the activities. •Promote the values and culture of the Commonwealth War Graves Commission and provide direction and support to frontline employees to achieve the goals and objectives for the region as a role model for achieving high standards and value-creating activities. Essential: •Hands-on experience in project, change and performance management at operational level. •Considerable practical experience in managing multi-site quality horticulture, including managing employees reporting to the position and contractors. •Working together and engaging with key stakeholders and showing involvement. •Management skills - Monitoring standards and behaviour, providing coaching and assistance when required to motivate staff to give their best. Promoting the development of talents and staff while dealing effectively with poor performance. A good team worker who acknowledges the contributions of others. •Good command of written and spoken Italian and English •Service - You have good administrative and numerical knowledge and issue good health and safety practices; you provide the service necessary for the general public and the department of the head office. •Strong IT skills - Average knowledge of, in particular, the products of the Microsoft suite. •Commitment to continuous professional development •You align yourself with the Commission’s values and comply with them: RESPECT, EXCELLENCE,COMMITMENT,AMBITION. •Responsible for the safety and health of yourself and others What We Offer: Annual salary about 42k gross annual. Full time 35 hours from Monday to Friday. Annual seniority pay increases. Supplementary pension scheme additional contribution. 2 weeks closure in Christmas.
