Position Summary

Position Summary

Michigan State University is seeking an experienced HR systems and data professional to serve as a functional lead for Organizational Management and Personnel Administration (OM/PA) within Human Resources Information Technology. This position collaborates and offers lead supports to enhance enterprise HR operations through functional analysis, solution design, system configuration, testing, workflow administration, troubleshooting, and process improvement initiatives that ensure the integrity and reliability of critical HR data and technology solutions.

The role partners closely with HR leaders, technical teams, and campus stakeholders to analyze complex business requirements, design effective system solutions, resolve high-impact issues, assess downstream impacts, and lead implementation efforts that advance HR services across the university. This position serves as a functional subject matter expert and escalation point for complex OM/PA processes and system-related challenges.

Note: This vacancy is being posted at two classification levels to allow the organization to consider candidates with a range of skills and experience. Salary

The salary range for this position is fixed at $83,000-93,000. Final compensation will be determined based on relevant experience within this range.

Remote Work Capability

This position is based in East Lansing, Michigan, on the campus of Michigan State University. Human Resources embraces flexible work options, and this position will be fully remote.

What You’ll Do

  • Serve as a functional lead for SAP HCM Organizational Management (OM) and Personnel Administration (PA) processes, data, workflows, forms, and related HR applications.
  • Coordinate complex business requirements and translate them into scalable, sustainable technology solutions that support university operations.
  • Lead requirements gathering, business process analysis, solution design, documentation, implementation, and stabilization activities for HR technology initiatives.
  • Evaluate system dependencies, integrations, policies, and downstream impacts to determine the most effective functional approach for enhancements and changes.
  • Design, coordinate, and execute comprehensive testing strategies for system upgrades, enhancements, workflows, forms, migrations, and other enterprise initiatives.
  • Analyze defects, assess business impacts, coordinate resolution efforts, and validate system functionality across technical and functional teams.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex, high-impact, and cross-functional HR system, workflow, and data issues affecting critical business operations.
  • Perform root-cause analysis across business processes, integrations, configurations, and data structures to identify corrective actions and prevent recurring issues.
  • Serve as a trusted advisor to HR partners, campus stakeholders, and HRIT colleagues by providing consultation, guidance, and expertise on HR systems and data.
  • Mentor and provide knowledge transfer to less experienced analysts while contributing to continuous improvement of processes, testing standards, and documentation practices.

Minimum Requirements

Knowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired by completing a four-year college degree in business, management information systems or related field; three to five years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in the business functional area and/or enterprise software and technology including functional system design specification, testing, and implementation; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Desired Qualifications

Experience supporting SAP HCM modules including Organizational Management and Personnel Administration. Strong analytical judgment, root-cause analysis, troubleshooting, documentation, stakeholder consultation, and problem-solving skills. Ability to work independently with broad direction and to coordinate complex functional activities across business and technical teams. Experience supporting HR forms, workflow processes, or faculty lifecycle processes. Experience using artificial intelligence tools and automated testing technologies to support data analysis, improve process efficiency, validate system functionality, and strengthen the quality and reliability of HR systems and data. Knowledge of employee HR processes in a higher education environment. Experience supporting large ERP implementations or system migrations. Experience documenting functional requirements, test cases, and system designs. Strong communication and stakeholder support skills.
