Office Hours: Monday- Friday 8 AM- 5 PM

Summary/ Objective:

The Human Resources Generalist supports the day-to-day operations of the Human Resources function by administering employee programs, benefits, leave management, compliance activities, HR systems, employee relations, and other human resources initiatives. This position serves as a key resource for employees and managers by providing guidance on policies, procedures, and employment practices while ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws. The Human Resources Generalist promotes a positive employee experience by delivering responsive HR support and partnering with leadership to support organizational objectives.

Essential Functions:

Human Resources Administration

  • Independently administer Human Resources programs and processes.
  • Maintain employee records and data within the Human Resources Information System (HRIS).
  • Process employment verifications and ensure appropriate employee authorization is obtained.
  • Prepare and maintain employment-related documentation and reports.
  • Coordinate onboarding and employee lifecycle activities.
  • Respond to employee inquiries regarding HR programs, policies, and procedures.

Payroll and Timekeeping

  • Review and audit time and attendance records.
  • Support payroll preparation and bi-weekly payroll processing activities.
  • Assist in maintaining payroll-related records and documentation.
  • Coordinate with Payroll regarding employee status changes and benefit deductions.

Employee Relations and Performance Management

  • Partner with and coach managers regarding employee relations, performance management, attendance concerns, corrective actions, and Human Resources best practices.
  • Conduct investigations related to employee complaints, policy violations, and workplace issues, and prepare recommendations for resolution.
  • Exercise independent judgment in resolving employee relations and personnel matters and make recommendations regarding personnel actions.
  • Support conflict resolution and workplace issue management.
  • Coordinate performance review administration and related communications.
  • Promote positive employee engagement and workplace culture initiatives.
  • Mentor or provide guidance to Human Resources Generalist I employees, as needed.

Compliance and Reporting

  • Maintain compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations and serve as a subject matter expert for HR compliance and policy interpretation.
  • Support annual EEO-1 and other regulatory reporting requirements.
  • Lead Human Resources audits, projects, process improvements, and training initiatives.
  • Identify organizational risks and recommend corrective actions.
  • Maintain and communicate Human Resources policies, procedures, and handbook updates.
  • Prepare routine and ad hoc Human Resources reports and metrics.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Provide support for workers' compensation administration.
  • Support employee wellness, recognition, and engagement programs.

Work Environment:

  • This job operates primarily in an office setting with the balance of the time split between visiting remote branches/warehouses, and attending meetings. This position requires the use of standard office equipment such as computers, internet, smart phones, and photocopiers.

Physical Demands:

Travel:

  • Some overnight travel is required and the employee can reasonably expect on average 15% overnight travel to meet the demands of the position. Should travel be required a valid driver's license is required for this position.

Clearances and Certifications:

  • U.S. Citizenship or U.S. Permanent Resident status required.
  • SHRM CP, PHR preferred

Education and Experience:

  • A bachelor’s degree and three to five years of HR experience preferred; or
  • A master’s degree in HR Management and two years of HR experience preferred; or
  • Five years of HR experience and a PHR/SHRM certification preferred.
