Job Title: Human Resources Business Partner Job Description The Human Resources Business Partner serves as the primary HR advisor across Canada and the United States, owning the full HR function in a standalone capacity. This role provides strategic and hands-on support in employee relations, talent acquisition, performance management, compensation, benefits, compliance, and employee engagement. You will partner directly with senior leadership, influence key organizational decisions, and shape the employee experience and culture within a growing, distributed workforce. Responsibilities Serve as the primary HR advisor to leaders and employees across Canada and the United States, providing strategic guidance on people-related decisions. Partner with managers to address employee relations matters, including performance management, coaching, corrective actions, accommodations, leaves of absence, and workplace concerns. Lead full-cycle recruitment across various functional areas, including defining role requirements, sourcing and screening candidates, coordinating interviews, and facilitating hiring decisions. Manage onboarding activities and ensure a smooth integration experience for new employees, supporting workforce planning as the organization evolves. Act as the main point of contact for employee questions, concerns, and HR-related issues, fostering a positive and responsive employee experience. Ensure compliance with Ontario employment legislation and support HR activities across multiple U.S. states, maintaining awareness of applicable employment laws and best practices. Coordinate with external legal or HR advisory resources when needed and assist with investigations, disciplinary actions, accommodations, leaves, and terminations. Support compensation reviews and provide guidance on salary administration, including coordinating quarterly bonus administration and reporting processes. Assist with benefits administration, employee communications, and the maintenance of HR records, reporting, and documentation while ensuring data accuracy and confidentiality. Lead employee engagement initiatives, including surveys and action planning, and recommend programs and strategies to improve satisfaction, retention, and organizational culture. Champion employee development and continuous improvement initiatives, staying current on HR trends, workplace best practices, and evolving employee expectations. Partner closely with senior leadership across North America and collaborate with global parent company and international HR stakeholders on workforce planning, compliance, and organizational initiatives. Operate as a standalone HR leader with significant autonomy, ownership, and accountability for all HR functions across Canada and the U.S. Shape employee experience, culture, and engagement initiatives within a growing organization while supporting a distributed workforce. Essential Skills Minimum of 5+ years of broad-based Human Resources experience in roles such as HR Generalist, HR Manager, HR Business Partner, or similar. Strong knowledge of Ontario employment legislation and HR best practices, including the Employment Standards Act (ESA). Demonstrated experience in employee relations, including performance management, investigations, corrective actions, leaves of absence, and terminations. Proven experience managing full-cycle recruitment, onboarding, and workforce planning activities. Hands-on HR compliance experience supporting policies, procedures, and practices aligned with employment laws. Ability to work independently and manage competing priorities in a standalone HR environment with significant autonomy. HR Business Partnership and employee relations experience of 5+ years, including senior stakeholder management and leadership coaching. Strong communication skills with the ability to build effective relationships and influence leaders at all levels. Excellent problem-solving skills and sound judgment in handling sensitive and complex HR issues. Experience with compensation, benefits, and HR administration, including salary administration and bonus processes. Proficiency with HR systems (HRIS) and Microsoft Office, with strong attention to data accuracy and confidentiality. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience supporting both Canadian and U.S.-based employees in a cross-border HR capacity. Working knowledge of multi-state U.S. employment practices and HR compliance (preferred). HR Generalist or standalone HR leadership experience, ideally in a services-based, hospitality, consulting, or distributed workforce environment. Experience leading employee engagement, culture, and retention initiatives, including surveys and action planning. CHRP or CHRL designation, or equivalent HR certification (preferred). Experience with HR systems, HRIS platforms, and HR administration processes. Background in recruitment, onboarding, and employee benefits administration. Comfort operating in a fast-paced, hands-on environment where priorities can shift quickly. Ability to partner directly with senior leadership, including executive-level stakeholders, and contribute to strategic workforce planning. Interest in developing cross-border HR expertise and growing into a strategic HR leadership role. Work Environment This role operates in a hybrid work environment with a mix of in-office and remote collaboration across Canada and the United States. You will function as a standalone HR professional with significant autonomy, ownership, and accountability for all HR functions, working closely with senior leadership, including the CEO and operational leaders. The setting is fast-paced and hands-on, with shifting priorities and diverse responsibilities where no two days are the same. The culture is collaborative and relationship-driven, emphasizing employee engagement, coaching, and strong business partnership. You will support a distributed workforce and gain meaningful exposure to both Canadian and U.S. HR practices. The position is structured as a contract-to-hire opportunity and includes access to a quarterly bonus program and a comprehensive benefits package. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Toronto, ON. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $43.27 - $48.08/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
