Position Title: Human Resources Intern Department: Human Resources Reports To: Chief People Officer Number of Positions: Two Employment Type: Paid Internship / Part-Time Location: Arlington, Virginia – Hybrid Schedule: Approximately 15–25 hours per week, based on business and academic requirements Duration: Three to six months, with the potential for extension Compensation: $ [Insert Hourly Rate] per hour Clearance Requirement: None required Position Summary NALEJ is seeking two organized, dependable, and motivated Human Resources Interns to support the company’s growing workforce and expanding people operations. The interns will work directly with the Chief People Officer and assist with recruiting coordination, employee records, onboarding, performance management administration, policy documentation, and general HR operations. This internship is designed for individuals interested in gaining practical experience across the employee lifecycle while supporting a fast-moving technology company operating within the federal government and national security marketplace. The successful candidates will be detail-oriented, professional, comfortable handling confidential information, and capable of completing routine administrative assignments with limited supervision. The interns should also be willing to take ownership of recurring HR tasks, identify opportunities to improve processes, and help maintain accurate and organized employee information. Primary Responsibilities Recruiting and Talent Acquisition Assist with posting and maintaining job requisitions within BambooHR and other recruiting platforms. Review applications and organize candidate information for the Chief People Officer and hiring managers. Coordinate interviews, including scheduling candidates and distributing interview information. Maintain candidate status information and recruiting documentation within the applicant tracking system. Prepare candidate correspondence, including interview confirmations, follow-up messages, and disposition communications. Assist with sourcing candidates through LinkedIn, ClearanceJobs, universities, professional associations, and other approved channels. Support the development and maintenance of candidate pipelines for current and anticipated positions. Onboarding and Offboarding Prepare onboarding checklists, orientation materials, and new-hire documentation. Confirm completion of required employment forms, acknowledgments, and assigned onboarding activities. Coordinate with internal stakeholders to support account creation, equipment requests, system access, and employee introductions. Maintain onboarding status trackers and follow up on incomplete actions. Assist with exit documentation, equipment return coordination, and employee record updates. HR Administration and Employee Records Maintain accurate and organized employee records within BambooHR. Review personnel files for missing, outdated, or incomplete documentation. Upload and properly categorize employment documents, signed agreements, policy acknowledgments, and performance records. Assist with routine employee data updates, organizational charts, employee directories, and HR trackers. Prepare standard HR letters, forms, templates, and internal communications. Support periodic audits of employee records and HR documentation. Maintain confidentiality and appropriately safeguard employee and company information. Performance Management and Employee Support Assist with scheduling quarterly and annual employee performance reviews. Track completion of self-assessments, manager evaluations, and required review documentation. Organize performance-related records for inclusion in employee personnel files. Support the administration of employee surveys, feedback requests, and engagement activities. Respond to routine employee questions or appropriately route them to the Chief People Officer. Help monitor recurring HR deadlines and follow up with employees and managers regarding outstanding actions. Policies, Procedures, and HR Projects Assist with formatting, organizing, and maintaining company policies and standard operating procedures. Conduct basic research on HR practices, employment trends, and policy topics when assigned. Help develop manager guides, employee communications, process maps, checklists, and HR reference materials. Support implementation of new or updated HR policies. Assist with special projects involving workforce planning, employee engagement, internship programming, compliance, and organizational development. Identify administrative processes that can be standardized, automated, or improved. Minimum Qualifications Currently enrolled in or recently graduated from an accredited college or university. Pursuing a degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Management, Industrial and Organizational Psychology, Communications, or a related field. Strong organizational and time-management skills. Strong written and verbal communication skills. High level of professionalism, discretion, and judgment. Demonstrated attention to detail and ability to maintain accurate records. Ability to manage multiple assignments and meet established deadlines. Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Teams. Ability to work independently after receiving clear instructions. Willingness to complete both routine administrative tasks and developmental assignments. Preferred Qualifications Previous internship, administrative, customer service, recruiting, or office support experience. Familiarity with BambooHR or another human resources information system or applicant tracking system. Experience coordinating schedules, maintaining records, or managing confidential information. Interest in federal contracting, national security, artificial intelligence, technology, or government services. Familiarity with LinkedIn, university recruiting, ClearanceJobs, or other candidate sourcing platforms. Experience creating spreadsheets, trackers, presentations, process documentation, or professional correspondence. Student membership in SHRM or participation in a university HR or business organization. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Ability to handle sensitive information with confidentiality and discretion. Ability to follow established processes while recognizing when an issue should be elevated. Ability to communicate professionally with candidates, employees, managers, and senior executives. Ability to organize electronic records and maintain consistent naming and filing conventions. Ability to learn new systems and processes quickly. Ability to take initiative and seek clarification when requirements are unclear. Ability to operate effectively in a dynamic, entrepreneurial, and rapidly evolving organization. Customer-service mindset and commitment to providing timely support to employees and candidates. Direct support to a Chief People Officer and senior leadership team. Demonstrate reliability, professionalism, and responsiveness. Take ownership of recurring administrative responsibilities. Recommend practical improvements to assigned HR processes. Represent NALEJ professionally in interactions with candidates, employees, and external partners. Physical and Work Requirements Ability to perform work using a computer for extended periods. Ability to communicate through email, telephone, video conference, and in-person meetings. Ability to work remotely and report to the Arlington office when required.
