We are currently seeking an experienced

HVDC Cable Engineering Specialist (m/f/d)

Start date: October 2026 (as soon as possible) | Duration: 2 years | Location / Assignment location: Berlin | Contract type: Freelance / B2B

You will support a major high-voltage grid infrastructure project in Germany on a freelance basis. The assignment is predominantly remote and includes occasional onsite activities as well as project-related travel within Germany.

As part of your role, you will be entrusted with the following responsibilities:

  • Support the qualification of HVDC cable systems by reviewing type tests and Thermal Stability Tests, evaluating results and documenting findings for release decisions
  • Provide cable engineering expertise throughout the manufacturing process, including FATs and acceptance testing
  • Review and comment on manufacturer documentation related to cable systems and their technical requirements
  • Provide technical input on cable system design and dimensioning, including the assessment of thermal calculations
  • Coordinate technical matters with cable manufacturers and testing institutes
  • Identify and assess technical deviations, unresolved issues and associated risks related to type testing, cable production and cable design

  • Completed university degree in electrical engineering, energy engineering or a comparable technical field
  • Solid professional experience in the planning and implementation of high-voltage cable projects (525 kV HVDC or 380 kV systems), with a focus on cable design
  • Practical experience with type testing and acceptance testing of high-voltage cable systems
  • Knowledge of thermal cable system design and calculations as well as relevant standards and approval procedures for power cable systems
  • Proficient English language skills (C1 level) for effective communication in an international project environment
  • Flexibility to travel to additional project locations as required (approximately 30%)
  • Collaborative working style with the ability to contribute effectively within interdisciplinary project teams and in cooperation with external partners
