About the role

At National Grid, our commitment to a cleaner, greener energy future is powered by the dedication and ingenuity of our people.

Join our team as a HVDC Procurement Strategy Lead and be a part of something bigger— where your unique skills and passions can make a real difference. Together, we are superpowered.

Whether your experience lies in strategy, data analysis, procurement, or engineering or a closely related discipline; we’re looking for an enthusiastic and forward-thinking professional to help shape the future of our category strategy.

This role will play a critical part in shaping forward-looking procurement and supply chain strategies across National Grid’s HVDC portfolio, ensuring we are one step ahead of business needs in an increasingly constrained and evolving global supply market.

The HVDC Strategy Lead will provide data driven insight and strategic thinking to help the team anticipate supply chain risks, manage capacity and lead times, and influence key stakeholders across the business whilst supporting the HVDC Business Strategy Partners and HVDC Category Manager.

This is a unique opportunity to contribute to the development and delivery of projects critical to achieving Net Zero. Applicants should be passionate about the energy transition and bring one or more of the following capabilities: technical, analytical, commercial, or strategy development expertise.

This role is based out of our Warwick, and you can enjoy our hybrid working from office and home.

What you'll do

  • Shape category strategy – Help build and continuously improve procurement strategies for HVDC equipment and services, turning market insight and supply chain intelligence into clear, actionable plans.
  • Drive supply chain insight – Track supplier capacity, lead times, and market trends to anticipate challenges, strengthen forecasting, and support confident, future focused decision making.
  • Influence key stakeholders – Work with project, engineering, commercial, and finance teams to align project delivery with category strategy, ensuring solutions are realistic, compliant, and value driven.
  • Provide strategic assurance – Contribute to portfolio and project reviews, offering guidance on supply chain readiness, risk, and overall deliverability.
  • Deliver high quality analysis – Create clear, data driven documents, models, and presentations that simplify complexity and support senior level decisions.
  • Build capability – Help shape a growing, ambitious category team by promoting strategic thinking and consistent ways of working.

What you'll need

  • A background in procurement, data analysis, commercial, or a related field — energy sector experience is a bonus, not necessary.
  • A strategic mindset with the ability to blend big picture thinking with practical, data driven delivery.
  • Curiosity and a proactive approach to understanding supply chain and deliverability challenges.
  • Experience in strategy, category management, commercial, or supply chain focused roles within complex infrastructure or regulated environments is a bonus, but not necessary.
  • Strong analytical, organisational, and problem solving skills, with the ability to structure and interpret data effectively.
  • Confident communication skills, able to translate analysis into clear insights for different audiences.
  • A collaborative, team focused approach with experience working across multidisciplinary groups.
  • MCIPS qualification or progress toward it is desirable.
  • Experience in project delivery or familiarity with the energy sector is an advantage

What you'll get

A salary of up to £53,000 per annum dependent on experience.

As well as your base salary you will receive a bonus based on personal and company performance and a competitive contributory pension scheme where we will double match your contribution to a maximum company contribution of 12%.

You will also have access to a number of flexible benefits such as a share incentive plan, salary sacrifice car and technology schemes, support via employee assistance lines and matched charity giving to name a few.
