A Day in the Life of a Product Manager, Impact Intelligence at MetLife Legal Plans:

The Impact Intelligence team is seeking a Product Manager who can operate fluently at the intersection of business strategy, analytics, and data engineering. This role will partner with business stakeholders to understand the decision or outcome behind a data request, translate that need into clear and testable requirements, and guide the Impact Intelligence team in delivering trusted, reusable data products and insights.

The successful candidate will connect business context with technical execution. They will clarify ambiguous requests, define value and priority, align stakeholders on scope and acceptance criteria, and communicate effectively with executives, business partners, data analysts, analytics engineers, and data engineers.

Responsibilities (Essential Duties and Responsibilities):

  • Engage business partners to understand the business objective, decisions to be supported, target audience, measures of success, constraints, and urgency behind each request.
  • Translate business questions into well-defined epics, features, user stories, data requirements, business rules, acceptance criteria, and nonfunctional requirements that the Impact Intelligence team can execute.
  • Facilitate discovery sessions that surface source systems, grain, dimensions, facts, hierarchies, calculation logic, data quality expectations, security considerations, and refresh needs.
  • Partner with data analysts, analytics engineers, and data engineers to shape solutions that are valuable, feasible, scalable, secure, and maintainable.
  • Own and prioritize the product backlog using business value, strategic alignment, customer impact, risk, dependencies, data readiness, and delivery effort.
  • Lead backlog refinement, sprint planning, reviews, stakeholder demonstrations, and retrospectives in partnership with the delivery team.
  • Define and maintain a clear product roadmap for Impact Intelligence capabilities, balancing near-term business needs with reusable enterprise data assets.
  • Ensure requirements preserve metric consistency and common business definitions across semantic models, dashboards, analyses, and downstream use cases.
  • Validate delivered capabilities with business partners, confirm acceptance criteria, coordinate user acceptance testing, and drive adoption through clear release communication and enablement.
  • Monitor product outcomes and stakeholder feedback, then use evidence to improve prioritization, data products, and team ways of working.
  • Identify and manage dependencies, risks, scope changes, and trade-offs; escalate decisions with concise options and impact statements.
  • Communicate technical concepts in business terms and business needs in data terms, adapting depth and language to the audience.

Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, skills, and abilities required)

  • 5+ years of experience in product management, product ownership, business analysis, data and analytics, or a related role, including experience delivering data or analytics products.
  • Demonstrated ability to translate ambiguous business needs into clear requirements, user stories, acceptance criteria, process flows, and prioritized backlogs.
  • Working knowledge of dimensional data modeling, including facts, dimensions, grain, keys, slowly changing dimensions, and semantic or metrics layers.
  • Working knowledge of modern data warehousing concepts, including ingestion, transformation, orchestration, data lineage, data quality, metadata, and governed access.
  • Strong data analysis skills and proficiency using SQL to explore data, validate requirements, investigate issues, and assess delivered outcomes.
  • Practical experience with Agile and Scrum methods, including discovery, backlog management, refinement, sprint planning, reviews, retrospectives, and incremental delivery.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with both technical and nontechnical audiences, including senior leaders, business subject-matter experts, analysts, and engineers.
  • Excellent facilitation, problem-solving, prioritization, negotiation, and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment while managing multiple stakeholders and competing priorities.
  • Understanding data governance, privacy, security, and data quality principles as they apply to analytics products.

What Will Make You Special (Preferred knowledge, skills, and abilities):

  • Experience with cloud data platforms and analytics tools such as Amazon Redshift, DBT Cloud, Tableau, GitHub, or Jira.
  • Knowledge and hands-on experience applying AI capabilities within DBT and Tableau, such as DBT's AI-assisted development features and Tableau's Pulse, Einstein Copilot, or similar generative analytics tools.
  • Experience using external generative AI tools such as Microsoft Copilot or Claude to accelerate requirements writing, documentation, data analysis, and other product management tasks.
  • Skilled at describing and illustrating complex data concepts for varied audiences using tools such as PowerPoint, Word, and AI visual generation tools.
  • Experience defining or managing semantic models, certified data sets, dashboards, metrics, or self-service analytics products.
  • Experience supporting business domains such as customer enrollment, retention, operations, finance, sales, service, or digital product analytics.
  • Product Owner or Agile certification such as CSPO, PSPO, PMI-ACP, or SAFe POPM.
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited university or equivalent relevant experience.
  • Ability to communicate complex concepts with written or visual tools as well as skills with the latest AI tools and capabilities as it related to data activities
