Industrial Automation Engineer

As an Industrial Automation Engineer at Forgis, you will own the layer that connects real machines to our platform. You will operate at the intersection of cutting-edge technology and real-world industrial problems, turning heterogeneous equipment across vendors into a single, controllable system that our digital engineers can reason about.

Responsibilities

• Integrating: On the factory floor, connecting PLCs, robots, and vendor equipment onto Forgis across industrial protocols (OPC-UA, MQTT, Modbus, Profinet).
• Bringing up: Taking new production lines online end to end, validating data flows and confirming the platform controls them reliably.
• Deploying: Installing and configuring our technology on-site, wiring in PLCs, robots, and existing controls to ensure smooth deployment.
• Debugging: Tracing issues across software, network, and hardware layers when an integration does not behave as expected.

This role is ideal for you if

• Master's degree in mechanical, electrical, mechatronics, or a related engineering field from a top university (e.g.PoliMi, PoliTo, UniBo, Sapienza, ETH Zurich, TUM, Oxford, Cambridge).
• Proven technical achievements: complex systems shipped or robotics and automation projects taken from prototype to working hardware.
• Strong software engineering and hands-on coding, including real-time or embedded systems.
• Familiarity with industrial control systems and protocols (PLCs, OPC-UA, MQTT, Modbus, Profinet, EtherCAT) and how to integrate heterogeneous equipment across vendors.
• Solid grasp of automation fundamentals: motion control, sensors and actuators and safety.
• You debug confidently across software, networking, and machine layers, and are comfortable owning integrations end to end on the plant floor.
