Job Description

The School of Nursing seeks an Information Analyst II. This position sits at the intersection of research data analysis and applied software engineering. The incumbent collects, compiles, and analyzes data generated by digital health studies, and builds and maintains the systems that produce, process, and surface that data.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Collects, compiles and analyzes data.
  • Performs statistical analysis of data.
  • Maintains databases and records and generates reports related to analysis.
  • Assists in presenting results of analyses.

DETAILED RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • DATA ANALYSIS & REPORTING
    • Collects, compiles, cleans, and validates continuous data streams from wearable devices, mobile applications, and study instruments; resolves gaps, drift, and device-level inconsistencies prior to analysis.
    • Performs descriptive and statistical analysis of study data; produces adherence, engagement, and data-quality reports for investigators and study coordinators.
    • Designs and maintains relational and document databases (MySQL, PostgreSQL, MongoDB) supporting active studies, including schema design and query optimization for large longitudinal datasets.
  • SYSTEMS AND APPLICATION DEVELOPMENT:
    • Builds and maintains backend services in Java/Spring Boot and Python exposing RESTful APIs for data capture, retrieval, and reporting; containerized with Docker and deployed on AWS (EC2/ECS) Linux environments.
    • Develops cross-platform participant-facing mobile applications in React Native with TypeScript to support data collection across iOS and Android from a single codebase.
    • Ensures secure handling, transmission, and storage of sensitive participant health data in accordance with institutional and federal requirements.
  • AI AGENT DEVELOPMENT FOR RESEARCH WORKFLOWS:
    • Designs, builds, and evaluates LLM-based agents that automate research data workflows — including structured extraction from unstructured study documents, automated data-quality auditing, and natural-language querying of study datasets.
    • Implements retrieval-augmented pipelines over institutional and study-specific corpora, including chunking strategy, embedding and vector store selection, and retrieval evaluation.
    • Develops evaluation harnesses to measure agent accuracy, hallucination rate, and output stability before deployment against live study data.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree and two years of experience in compiling and analyzing data, or equivalent combination of experience, education, and training.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master's degree in Computer Science or a closely related field.
  • Demonstrated experience delivering an end-to-end mobile health application integrating wearable-sensor data with machine-learning models in an academic research setting.
  • Experience building and evaluating LLM-based agents or retrieval-augmented pipelines applied to research or clinical data workflows, including quantitative evaluation of agent output quality.
  • Prior experience supporting research at an academic medical center.
