Role Description The Inpatient Medical Coder role is a full-time, remote position responsible for accurately assigning inpatient medical codes in accordance with current coding guidelines and payer requirements. Day-to-day tasks include reviewing inpatient medical records, interpreting physician documentation, and applying appropriate ICD-10-CM/PCS and other relevant codes to support correct reimbursement and compliance. The role involves validating medical necessity, ensuring coding accuracy for DRG assignment, and collaborating with clinical and billing teams to resolve documentation or coding issues. The Inpatient Medical Coder will also help identify coding trends, support audit activities, and contribute to process improvements that enhance revenue integrity and reduce denials. This position includes a sign-on bonus opportunity and requires consistent, reliable performance in a home-based work environment.
Qualifications
  • Demonstrated inpatient Coding Experience, including ICD-10-CM/PCS and DRG assignment for acute care facilities.
  • Background in Health Information Management, with knowledge of healthcare documentation, compliance, and record-keeping standards.
  • Strong understanding of Medical Terminology and disease processes relevant to inpatient coding.
  • Formal training or certification in Medical Coding, such as RHIT or equivalent credentials (e.g., CCS, CPC) preferred.
  • Familiarity with payer rules, regulatory requirements, and billing workflows in revenue cycle management.
  • Proficiency with electronic health records (EHR) and coding software, along with strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to work independently in a remote setting, manage time effectively, and meet productivity and quality benchmarks.
  • High school diploma required; associate or bachelor’s degree in health information, healthcare administration, or related field is an advantage.
