We are looking for a INSEIT AR Intern to support infectious disease surveillance, case investigations, and public health response activities within the Infectious Disease Epidemiology & Prevention Division. This position will be Part-Time and Hybrid in Indianapolis, Indiana.
Only work authorizations that will not require sponsorship now or in the future will be considered.
What You'll Do
- Conduct medical record reviews and searches to support infectious disease investigations
- Contact healthcare providers, hospitals, and other reporting entities to obtain patient and case information
- Enter case investigation data into the Indiana state surveillance system (NBS)
- Process and enter laboratory results received from laboratories and healthcare providers
- Support surveillance, prevention, and containment activities for multidrug-resistant organisms (MDROs)
- Investigate cases involving targeted drug-resistant organisms including carbapenemase-producing organisms (CPO), Candida auris, pan-drug resistant organisms, and vancomycin-intermediate or resistant Staphylococcus aureus
- Assist with outbreak and cluster investigations as assigned
- Perform data analysis and special project work in support of public health initiatives
- Participate in ongoing training and professional development opportunities throughout the program
- Collaborate with epidemiologists and public health professionals to support disease surveillance and response activities
What You'll Need
Required:
- Current graduate student, upper-level undergraduate student, or recent graduate in public health, biology, epidemiology, healthcare, life sciences, or a related field
- Ability to complete all work within the state of Indiana
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and data entry systems
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive health information
- Ability to analyze and interpret information from multiple sources
Preferred:
- Coursework or experience in epidemiology, public health, microbiology, infectious diseases, or health sciences
- Experience with healthcare records, disease surveillance, or public health programs
- Knowledge of infectious disease prevention and control principles
- Experience with data analysis tools or statistical software
- Experience communicating with healthcare providers or clinical staff
- Previous internship, volunteer, or research experience in a healthcare or public health setting
Physical Demands
- Ability to safely and successfully perform the essential job functions consistent with the ADA and other federal, state, and local standards
- Ability to conduct repetitive tasks on a computer, utilizing a mouse, keyboard, and monitor
- Must be able to communicate with customers/team members over the phone and in person
- Sedentary work that involves sitting or remaining stationary most of the time with occasional need to move around the office to attend meetings, etc.

$15 per hourThe pay range for this position is listed above. Exact compensation may vary based on several factors, including location, experience, and education. Benefit packages for this role will include 401k retirement account access. Employees in this role may also be entitled to paid sick leave and/or other paid time off as provided by applicable law.
