POSITION SUMMARY

The Instructional Technician will provide Instructional System Design (ISD) support for distance learning education programs in Air University, Maxwell AFB Alabama. This role will support a dedicated team of professionals building and maintaining distance learning courses in the Canvas LMS using html and native Canvas tools. Working “On-Site” with active-duty military and civilian professionals to provide quality distance learning education to Air Force Global College students.

DUTIES

  • Work within a multidisciplinary team to design, develop and assess best practices in online education for Air Force officers and enlisted Professional Military Education (PME).
  • Build new and maintain current courses as part of an Integrated Product Team (IPT), edits for clarity, and ensure quality online distance learning PME courses in the Canvas LMS.
    • Receives content from AFGC Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) to craft instructional narratives and student activities as part of the build process.
    • AFGC ISDs are expected to have background/military experiences to manage the nuances of provided content and clarify as needed.
    • Occasionally authors and/or coauthors instructional materials.
  • Develops student interactive content using Articulate Engage and/or storyline software, along with other student engagement platforms like H5P.
    • These interactions are built with minimal storyboards from SMEs but also using previous military experiences the ISDs are expected to add to the narrative.
    • Hosts brainstorming sessions to facilitate the interactive element development.
  • Identifies course learning objectives (LO) and ensures relevancy to current lesson materials.
    • ISDs are expected to raise concerns regarding any mismatched materials with LOs.
  • Designs, develops (or edits current) assessment items based on LOs for consistency and clarity in Canvas LMS.
  • Ensures all course elements are for that particular course. ISDs quickly become the most familiar with all of the course elements - attuned to everything from syllabus to resource list to instructional narratives.
  • Maintains awareness of advances in educational technology and provides recommendations on improvements to the Project Lead.
  • Other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION

  • Bachelor’s Degree, required
  • Focus on educational sciences, educational technology, and/or adult learning theory/application.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Minimum 5 years’ professional experience developing training courseware projects and programs.
  • Significant experience and training in an array of educational technology and administration of LMS (e.g., Canvas, Blackboard, etc.)
  • Significant experience building and maintaining web applications using HTML
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills
  • Experienced using the ADDIE model for curriculum development
  • Demonstrated ability to: work with Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) and instructors to develop learning objectives and course content; participate in courseware reviews with Government and internal teams.
  • Ability to utilize current learning principles/concepts, instructional design theory/evaluation methods and training technics/technologies to support development, delivery, administration, and evaluation such as industry-recognized Instructional Systems Design (ISD) and the ADDIE model.
  • Must be self-starter and able to work with minimum supervision
  • Must have ability to obtain a Secret Clearance.

WORKING KNOWLEDGE AND DEMONSTRATED EXPERIENCE IN

  • MS Office products including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • HTML
  • Canvas LMS

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Prior Experience working with Air Force and/or Air University
  • Prior Experience being part of an eLearning team developing IMI and online courseware.
  • Intermediate knowledge and demonstrated experience either developing or leading product development efforts using 3 D Modeling, gaming, Interactive Multimedia Instruction, Digital Learning Content Objects
  • ISD or training related certifications a PLUS
  • USAF training and education development and delivery experience a PLUS
