Located in Boston and the surrounding communities, Dana-Farber Cancer Institute is a leader in life changing breakthroughs in cancer research and patient care. We are united in our mission of conquering cancer, HIV/AIDS, and related diseases. We strive to create an inclusive, diverse, and equitable environment where we provide compassionate and comprehensive care to patients of all backgrounds, and design programs to promote public health particularly among high-risk and underserved populations. We conduct groundbreaking research that advances treatment, we educate tomorrow's physician/researchers, and we work with amazing partners, including other Harvard Medical School-affiliated hospitals.

Responsibilities

As a member of the Dana-Farber faculty, you will be expected to comply with all applicable federal and state laws and regulations, as well as DFCI institutional and Medical Staff Bylaws, Code of Conduct, and policies. We anticipate that you will always provide compassionate care of the highest quality to your patients and will maintain the highest standards of professional conduct in all aspects of your career. Throughout your tenure at Dana-Farber, your departmental, clinical, clinical research and teaching responsibilities may vary depending on institutional and departmental needs.

You will be expected to participate actively in Department activities, including faculty meetings, as well as selected institutional committees related to clinical care and research. You may be asked to serve as a member of committees or attend selected meetings as part of your faculty role at DFCI, BWH and/or HMS. As will be explained to you, these responsibilities will constitute a component of your Institute responsibilities.

Clinical. As a Category 1 Instructor, you will be expected to participate in direct patient care and supervision of medical students, residents, and fellows. It is expected that your clinical duties will represent approximately 90% of your time/effort. Initially, you will be expected to see inpatients for 6 half-day sessions per week. You will also be expected to participate in the BIDMC CL Psychiatry Inpatient call pool for 6 weeks per year, including 1-2 holidays. Your clinical responsibilities, which will be assessed on an annual basis, may vary based on institutional and departmental needs. These needs could include covering the inpatient consult service.

DFCI Medical Staff Bylaws require, with certain limited exceptions, that you have received Board certification in your specialty, and that you are, and at all times remain, Board certified in this subspecialty. It is encouraged, but not required, that you maintain certification in your primary specialty (e.g., internal medicine, pediatrics, psychiatry). In addition, you will need to meet all other DFCI, BIDMC, MAH, and BWH credentialing requirements to hold clinical appointments and practice medicine at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, Mount Auburn Hospital, and at Brigham and Women’s Hospital. You must obtain the following licenses before the commencement of clinical activities as a faculty member: Massachusetts medical license, Federal DEA license, and Massachusetts controlled substance license.

Teaching. As a member of the DFCI faculty with an HMS appointment, you will be expected and encouraged to contribute to the Institute’s educational mission by teaching in both informal and formal settings. HMS requires all faculty commit at least fifty hours per academic year to teaching activities. You will be expected to supervise medical students, residents, and fellows as they care for Dana-Farber patients, and may be asked to participate in didactic teaching to trainees and staff at DFCI, BIDMC, MAH, BWH, and/or HMS.

Academic. As a member of the Psychosocial Oncology Division, you are highly encouraged to participate and initiate academic projects. Subject to departmental needs, you may use two weeks of educational leave each year for the purpose of attending academic conferences, such as annual meetings. The remainder of your academic time should be devoted to defining and pursuing your academic focus.

Leadership. As Associate Program Director for the BIDMC-DFCI-VA Consultation Liaison Psychiatry Fellowship Program, you will provide assistance in overseeing the program, developing curriculum, and ensuring high-quality education and training for the program. In addition, we expect that you will assume a leadership role for the Department of Supportive Oncology in developing the Psychosocial Oncology track of the fellowship. We anticipate approximately 10% of your time/effort will be dedicated to overseeing educational efforts.

At Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, we work every day to create an innovative, caring, and inclusive environment where every patient, family, and staff member feels they belong. As relentless as we are in our mission to reduce the burden of cancer for all, we are committed to having faculty and staff who offer multifaceted experiences. Cancer knows no boundaries and when it comes to hiring the most dedicated and compassionate professionals, neither do we. If working in this kind of organization inspires you, we encourage you to apply.
