The Intake & Engagement Worker is a key frontline member of the Safer Pathways Initiative, a collaborative partnership between YWCA Calgary, Calgary Police Services (CPS), and FearIsNotLove (FINL). This position is responsible for responding to referrals, engaging individuals and families impacted by domestic violence, and providing trauma-informed support to promote safety, stability, and connection to resources. Through assessment, safety planning, crisis intervention, case management, advocacy, and systems navigation, the Intake & Engagement Worker supports participants in identifying their goals, addressing immediate concerns and accessing services that meet their unique needs.

This full-time position typically works 37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday, with flexibility to work between 8:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. The role is primarily based out of CPS Headquarters and requires travel throughout Calgary as needed.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

  • Respond to referrals received through the Safer Pathways initiative and initiate participant engagement in a timely manner
  • Complete intake, screening and assessment activities using a trauma-informed, participant-centred approach
  • Conduct individualized risk assessments and develop service plans that reflect participant strengths, needs, goals, and safety concerns
  • Provide crisis intervention, emotional support, safety planning and stabilization services
  • Support participants in identifying safe options and implementing immediate and longer-term safety strategies
  • Utilize de-escalation techniques, and a calm, grounded approach when responding to crisis situations, emotional distress, or conflict
  • Develop and maintain supportive helping relationships that promote trust, engagement, and participant choice
  • Collaborate with the Outreach Coordinator regarding referral processes, service prioritization, and file assignment
  • Provide individualized case management services to individuals and families impacted by domestic violence
  • Assist participants in navigating social service, legal, housing, financial, health, child-serving, and community systems
  • Support participants in identifying and achieving goals related to safety, stability, and well-being
  • Conduct community-based outreach and meetings in locations that support participant accessibility and safety
  • Provide court accompaniment and advocacy support as appropriate.
  • Collaborate with participants to identify and address barriers to accessing services and supports
  • Maintain accurate, timely, and confidential documentation of participant interactions, assessments, service plans, referrals and outcomes
  • Participate in regular supervision and team meetings, including case consultations with partners of the Safer Pathways initiative

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in social work, psychology, criminology, or a related human services field
  • Professional registration is considered an asset. Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered
  • Minimum three (3) years of experience working in the field of family violence
  • Minimum two (2) years of experience providing outreach, case management, or community-based support services
  • First Aid/CPR, Naloxone, ASIST, NVCI, and Brain Story certifications required within three months of employment
  • Must have a Class 5 driver’s license, driver’s abstract, and daily access to a reliable vehicle

WHAT YOU'LL BRING

  • Demonstrated understanding of family violence, mental health, substance use, traumatic stress, poverty, homelessness, and their intersections
  • Strong knowledge of community resources, service systems, and referral processes
  • Demonstrated ability to build rapport and engage individuals experiencing crisis, trauma, or complex barriers
  • Strong computer literacy and ability to learn new software and information systems
  • Ability to respond appropriately to medical emergencies, including administering Naloxone and First Aid/CPR until emergency medical services arrive
  • Experience working directly with Calgary Police Service (CPS) and community agencies in an outreach or community-based capacity is an asset
