Integration Developer Internship - Payments, Partnerships & Restaurant Systems

About ZOVU

ZOVU is building an integrated restaurant operating system covering point of sale, reservations, loyalty, staff planning, and customer experiences.

Our business model is based on restaurant transactions rather than monthly software subscriptions. We are a bootstrapped startup with an MVP nearing completion and a fully remote team preparing for our first restaurant launches.

Connecting ZOVU to payment providers, accounting platforms, delivery services, and other restaurant systems is an important part of that work.

The opportunity

This three-month internship combines hands-on integration development with partner development and negotiation.

We are looking for someone with prior practical experience who can work across technical and commercial conversations. You should be comfortable implementing an API, speaking with a potential partner, and explaining what an integration would require from both sides.

You will help identify integration opportunities, establish relationships, negotiate proposed terms, and turn agreed partnerships into working connections. Final commercial commitments will be reviewed and approved by ZOVU's founder.

What you will work on

Build reliable integrations

• Develop API clients and integration services using TypeScript and Node.js.
• Connect ZOVU with payment, accounting, ordering, delivery, and other restaurant platforms.
• Implement webhook handling, authentication, data mapping, and synchronization.
• Handle rate limits, retries, duplicate events, timeouts, and expired credentials.
• Track integration failures and build recovery procedures.
• Test provider behavior, document limitations, and prepare integrations for release.

Develop partner relationships

• Research potential partners and assess their relevance to restaurant customers.
• Contact partnership and technical teams to explore integration opportunities.
• Lead discovery calls covering API access, capabilities, onboarding, and support.
• Negotiate proposed integration fees, transaction pricing, revenue-sharing arrangements, and other relevant commercial terms, with founder guidance.
• Coordinate sandbox access, technical documentation, testing, and launch requirements.
• Maintain a clear partner pipeline with next steps, dependencies, and agreed responsibilities.
• Present recommendations that balance customer value, engineering effort, ongoing costs, and partner support.

Experience we are looking for

This role requires more practical experience than an introductory development internship.

Ideally, you have one to two years of relevant experience, or equivalent substantial freelance, startup, or independently delivered project work.

You should bring:

• At least one third-party integration you personally delivered beyond a basic tutorial.
• Working knowledge of TypeScript, Node.js, HTTP, REST APIs, JSON, and webhooks.
• Experience with authentication, secrets, relational databases, and testing.
• An understanding of how retries and duplicate events can affect payments or business records.
• Experience speaking directly with clients, vendors, or external technical teams.
• Confidence discussing pricing, scope, responsibilities, and trade-offs professionally.
• Strong written and spoken English.
• The ability to manage follow-ups, document decisions, and work independently.

You do not need an existing network of payment or hospitality partners. You do need the initiative to start conversations and the judgment to recognize when a technical or commercial decision needs founder input.

Useful additional experience

• Payment gateways, accounting software, delivery platforms, or restaurant technology.
• OAuth, queues, reconciliation, idempotency, and scheduled synchronization.
• PostgreSQL and Prisma.
• Vendor evaluation, business development, procurement, or partnership negotiation.
• Provider certification, sandbox testing, or coordinated integration launches.

Our relevant stack

TypeScript, Node.js/Express, PostgreSQL, Prisma, and Google Cloud Run.

Our integrations support shared services used by ZOVU's Flutter POS and web applications. Flutter experience is not required for this role.

How we work

The internship lasts three months, with a target commitment of 32 hours per week. Please state your actual availability when applying.

We work remotely and primarily asynchronously. Partner-facing work also requires occasional scheduled calls across time zones.

You will own meaningful integration and partnership work, supported by technical review and direct founder involvement in negotiations. Continued opportunities depend on performance, business needs, and funding; a permanent position is not guaranteed.
