Are you a person of compassion? An advocate for justice? Someone who stands up for the rights of the vulnerable and speaks out for the marginalized, the exploited and the forgotten? Do you believe in our calling as Christians to welcome the least of these and love our neighbor? If you answered ‘yes’, to any of the above, World Relief, and millions of people around the world need you. At this pivotal moment in time, we are rapidly expanding and growing our team to meet the increasing needs of our world. We are looking for people who want to use their gifts and talents to make a real and tangible difference in our world and the lives of the suffering. If you’re looking for a purpose-driven career in which you can grow your talents, while also standing up for the rights of the vulnerable, we want you to join us today. ORGANIZATION SUMMARY: World Relief is a global Christian humanitarian organization whose mission is to boldly engage the world’s greatest crises in partnership with the church. The organization was founded in the aftermath of World War II to respond to the urgent humanitarian needs of war-torn Europe. Since then, for 80 years, across 100 countries, World Relief has partnered with local churches and communities to build a world where families thrive and communities flourish. Today, organizational programming focuses on humanitarian and disaster response, community strengthening and resilience, and refugee & immigrant services and advocacy. POSITION SUMMARY: Do you want to develop your job skills? Are you fluent in Dari and/or Pashto, enjoy helping people, and want to use your skills and abilities to impact Afghan women’s lives? World Relief seeks an Integration Support Intern to join our team! The Dari/Pashto-speaking Integration Support Intern assists World Relief’s Cultural Integration Specialist in facilitating biweekly integration groups for preliterate Afghan women, with the goal of helping them grow toward stability through support, education, role modeling, and resources. The position aids in screening and enrolling clients, facilitating online classes, client testing, tracking attendance and gains, and general administrative support for the Integration classes. This position requires fluency in Dari and/or Pashto and is ideal for students pursuing studies in Social Work, Behavioral Sciences, Education, Health, or other related fields. The intern will become familiar with how resettlement agencies and educational programming meets refugee needs, gain a better understanding of the resources available to preliterate adults, and gain experience using supporting clients and tracking their progress. This is an unpaid internship; however, university credit may be available with prior approval. RESPONSIBILITIES: Assist with client recruitment, eligibility screening, and enrollment. Work alongside the Integration Specialist in leading online Integration classes. Help to create an encouraging and supportive environment that fosters learning and encourages preliterate women that they can be successful and move towards stability. Provide administrative support in taking attendance, assessing gains, and documenting progress toward goals. Assist in maintaining organized, accurate, current, and complete case files and database on clients, volunteers, and presenters. Make phones calls to clients as needed. Help compile learning materials and resources. Other duties as required. REQUIREMENTS: Committed to the mission, vision, and values of World Relief. Desire to serve vulnerable communities. Acknowledge World Relief’s faith statement. Strong communication skills in English. Fluent in Dari and/or Pashto. Strong technical skills in Zoom, Outlook email, and Microsoft Word and Excel. Commitment to a set schedule that includes 8:45-11:45 am on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. Commitment to a minimum of 10 hours/week. Female-presenting only, in respect for the cultural values of the population served. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Able to work effectively and sensitively with people of diverse cultural and religious backgrounds. Experience in facilitating groups a plus. Outgoing, friendly, quickly builds rapport, and puts people at ease. Comfortable communicating with and educating clients with limited literacy skills and little English. Proactive communicator and able to work closely with a team. Commitment to professionalism and client confidentiality. Ideally hold valid US Driver’s License and have access to a personal vehicle. While some internships are unpaid, the program is competitive and you are encouraged to approach it in the same way you would a job. Applicants are required to submit a cover letter, resume, application, and to pass a Criminal Background Check. Incomplete applications will not be considered. Please note that an internship with World Relief does not guarantee a future job in the organization.
