The Role As an Interconnection Specialist , you will be responsible for managing the interconnection process for residential solar and energy storage projects from application submission through Permission to Operate (PTO) . You'll work closely with utilities, customers, and internal teams to ensure all applications, documentation, and approvals are completed accurately, on time, and in compliance with utility and regulatory requirements. In this role, you'll track project milestones, maintain organized and audit-ready records, coordinate customer documentation, resolve interconnection-related issues, and help identify opportunities to improve internal processes. Success in this position requires exceptional attention to detail, strong organizational and communication skills, and the ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced, collaborative environment. What You’ll Be Doing Manage the full interconnection lifecycle for residential solar and energy storage projects, from application submission through Permission to Operate (PTO) . Prepare, submit, and track interconnection applications with utilities, ensuring all requirements are met. Serve as the primary point of contact for utilities, responding to inquiries and following up on application status. Coordinate directly with customers to obtain required documentation, signatures, and utility access for interconnection applications. Maintain accurate, organized, and audit-ready records of all interconnection documents, agreements, and correspondence. Monitor project timelines, identify potential delays or risks, and proactively escalate issues when necessary. Collaborate with engineering, project management, permitting, and operations teams to keep projects moving efficiently. Support the resolution of interconnection-related challenges, including utility requests, design updates, and technical clarifications. Track interconnection approvals, milestones, and related documentation to ensure compliance with utility and regulatory requirements. Contribute to process improvements by helping optimize workflows, documentation standards, and tracking systems. What We’re Looking For 2+ years of experience in solar operations, utility interconnection, project coordination, permitting, or a related role. Experience working with utility companies, interconnection applications, or renewable energy projects is highly preferred. Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to interact professionally with customers, utilities, and internal stakeholders. Exceptional attention to detail and a commitment to maintaining accurate documentation and records. Ability to identify issues, solve problems proactively, and escalate risks when appropriate. Comfortable working in a fast-paced, collaborative environment with changing priorities. Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, Google Workspace, and project tracking or CRM systems. Experience with solar industry platforms and utility portals is a plus. High level of accountability, ownership, and commitment to delivering an outstanding customer experience. Important to Know This is a fully remote position, but you'll work closely with internal teams, utility representatives, and customers throughout the interconnection process. Success in this role depends on staying organized, managing multiple projects simultaneously, and following up proactively to keep projects moving forward. Strong attention to detail is essential, as you'll be responsible for maintaining accurate documentation and ensuring compliance with utility and regulatory requirements. You'll be expected to communicate professionally with customers, utilities, and cross-functional teams while providing timely updates and resolving issues efficiently. Experience in the residential solar industry or with utility interconnection processes is highly valued and will help you ramp up quickly.
