Intermediate Backend Engineer

We are looking for an Intermediate Backend Engineer for a 1 year contract with high possibility of extension. Role is fully remote.

What You'll Do

• Architect, design, implement, and rigorously test backend APIs, software features, and product infrastructure.
• Build and maintain highly scalable, reliable, and secure backend services.
• Develop RESTful APIs using Java and Spring Boot.
• Design and develop applications using microservices architecture and distributed systems.
• Leverage serverless computing, cloud technologies, and distributed platforms to build robust solutions.
• Work with relational databases including PostgreSQL and MySQL.
• Utilize AI tools and Large Language Models (LLMs) to accelerate software design, development, testing, and optimization.
• Write clean, maintainable, and well-documented code.
• Develop comprehensive automated tests to ensure software quality and reliability.
• Troubleshoot complex technical issues and contribute to root-cause analysis.
• Research and evaluate new tools, technologies, and testing practices to continuously improve the software development lifecycle.
• Collaborate with engineers, product teams, and other stakeholders to deliver high-quality software products.
• Participate in Agile/Lean development practices and contribute to continuous improvement.

Must-Have Qualifications

• 6+ years of hands-on software development experience.
• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science or an equivalent technical field.
• Strong proficiency in Java and Spring Boot.
• Strong experience building and developing REST APIs for software products.
• Hands-on experience with microservices architecture and development and related tools and technologies.
• Experience working with relational databases such as PostgreSQL and MySQL.
• Experience building scalable, reliable, and secure backend applications.
• Strong understanding of software development methodologies and SDLC.
• Ability and willingness to quickly learn new technologies.
• Experience working in Agile/Lean development environments.
• Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
• Ability to navigate conflict, influence technical and project outcomes, and provide constructive feedback.
• Ability to think strategically while remaining hands-on with software development.

Nice to Have

• Experience with cloud-native and serverless technologies.
• Experience with distributed systems and highly scalable architectures.
• Experience using AI/LLM tools in software development.
• Experience with additional database, messaging, or distributed-platform technologies.
• Experience working in healthcare, life sciences, genomics, or other highly regulated industries.
• Experience developing software products that directly impact patient care.
