Voices for Healthy Kids, an initiative of the American Heart Association, is seeking a creative, detail‑oriented intern to support our communications and marketing team. This intern will help with design-based work, update and refresh outreach materials, and ensure brand consistency across digital and print assets. It’s a hands-on opportunity to build design and communications skills while supporting national advocacy efforts to improve child and family health.

The American Heart Association’s Internship Program provides college students an opportunity for hands-on experience in various facets for individuals interested in gaining work experience with a non-profit, voluntary health organization.

Internship Overview:

  • Time Commitment: 20 hours per week
  • Internship Duration: 1/25/27-5/7/27​
  • Location: Remote
  • Salary: $23.00 per hour

Responsibilities

  • Review, update, and refresh existing communications materials to ensure clarity, accuracy, and consistency across print and digital assets.
  • Design new content—such as one-pagers, social graphics, slide templates, and toolkits—supporting Voices for Healthy Kids advocacy and outreach efforts.
  • Ensure all materials align with Voices for Healthy Kids brand guidelines, including visual identity, tone, and messaging.
  • Support layout and design work, applying established templates and brand standards to new and existing materials.
  • Fact-check language, data points, and citations to ensure materials are accurate, up to date, and grounded in research.
  • Collaborate with the communications and marketing team to refine content and support timely project updates.

Qualifications

  • College seniors and graduate students pursuing a degree in public policy, communications, public relations, public health, journalism or related fields.
  • Experience in public policy and/or an interest in non-profit and health care communications is strongly preferred.
  • Strong communication, writing, editing, and proofreading skills with exceptional attention to detail.
  • Ability to independently manage projects from start to finish, including planning, execution, and follow-through.
  • Interest in translating complex information into clear, easy-to-understand content for different audiences.
  • Proficiency in Canva and other tools used to create clear, engaging communications materials.
  • Must be familiar with software including Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
  • Required Equipment: Reliable Wi-Fi connection.
  • Minimum availability of 20 hrs/wk, M-F between the hours of 9am-5pm.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States for any employer without sponsorship, now or in the future. For any roles working remotely, the work must also be performed inside the United States, not in a foreign country.
