Compensation Range

Hourly: $20.00 - $20.00 (Amount based on relevant experience, skills, and competencies.)

About This Job


Commerce Bank is seeking a Credit Card Acquisitions Risk Intern to support a defined project within the Retail Lending & Credit Card business. The intern will use research and data analysis to evaluate an existing acquisitions risk, fraud, or application strategy; identify trends and areas of opportunity; and develop data-supported recommendations. This position provides practical experience in credit card acquisitions risk management, fraud prevention, application decisioning, and business analytics.


The summer internship session will begin on Tuesday, May 18th, 2027, and will run for 11 weeks, ending on Friday, July 30th, 2027. Internships are paid, full-time opportunities with a Monday through Friday work schedule.


Essential Functions


  • Complete a defined project focused on evaluating or optimizing a credit card acquisitions risk, fraud, or application strategy.
  • Analyze application, fraud, and acquisitions risk performance data to identify trends, potential concerns, and areas of opportunity.
  • Research emerging capabilities and industry practices related to credit card acquisitions risk, application decisioning, and fraud prevention.
  • Summarize findings and develop data-supported observations and recommendations.
  • Prepare and present project findings to Retail Lending & Credit Card leadership and relevant business partners.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required


  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with an interest in using data to evaluate risk and business performance.
  • Ability to conduct research, recognize meaningful patterns and trends, and summarize findings clearly.
  • Detail-oriented, inquisitive, organized, and eager to learn.
  • Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently with appropriate direction and collaborate effectively with team members.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite.
  • Interest in financial services, consumer credit, fraud prevention, risk management, application decisioning, or data analytics.
  • Ability to handle business and customer information with appropriate discretion and confidentiality.
  • Ability to remain adaptable and resilient in changing situations, maintain an optimistic outlook, and contribute positively to Commerce Bank’s culture.

Education & Experience


  • Currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree in business, finance, economics, data analytics, mathematics, statistics, risk management, or a related field.
  • Coursework or experience involving data analysis, research, financial services, consumer credit, fraud, or risk management preferred.
  • Experience using Microsoft Excel to organize, analyze, and summarize data preferred.

*Hybrid Schedule: In office 3 days per week
