Internal Retirement & SDBA Sales Consultant
AssetmarkJob Description:
The Job/What You'll Do:
The Internal Retirement & SDBA Sales Consultant is a key member of the AssetMark Retirement Services sales organization and serves as the primary internal sales partner to the Regional Retirement & SDBA Business Development Consultant.
Together, the Internal and Regional Consultants operate as a coordinated sales team responsible for driving growth across two strategic areas: retirement plan solutions and Self-Directed Brokerage Accounts (SDBAs).
The Internal Consultant is responsible for developing new opportunities, supporting advisor engagement, coordinating the sales process, and maintaining consistent follow-up across the territory. The role combines proactive business development with sales execution, helping ensure retirement plan and SDBA opportunities progress efficiently from initial identification through close.
The Internal Consultant will work directly with financial advisors, AssetMark sales and ensemble teams, recordkeeping partners, and other strategic relationships to identify opportunities, educate advisors, coordinate proposals and benchmarking, and expand the adoption of AssetMark Retirement Services.
The successful candidate will be highly organized, sales-oriented, proactive, and comfortable taking ownership of opportunities while working closely with the Regional Consultant to achieve shared territory growth objectives.
Responsibilities:
Partner with the Regional Consultant:
Serve as the primary internal sales partner to the assigned Regional Retirement & SDBA Business Development Consultant
Develop and execute a coordinated territory strategy with clearly defined priorities, target advisors, opportunities, and sales activities
Prepare the Regional Consultant for advisor meetings, opportunity reviews, finalist presentations, and strategic partner discussions
Coordinate follow-up from Regional Consultant meetings to ensure opportunities continue progressing through the sales process
Maintain regular communication with the Regional Consultant regarding pipeline activity, advisor engagement, priorities, and next steps
Provide continuity and accessibility for advisors when the Regional Consultant is traveling or engaged in external meetings
Generate Retirement Plan Opportunities:
Conduct proactive outbound outreach to financial advisors to identify and develop new retirement plan opportunities
Work with advisors to gather plan information, understand objectives, identify potential opportunities, and determine appropriate next steps
Coordinate retirement plan benchmarking, proposal development, investment comparisons, and other sales resources needed to advance opportunities
Help advisors understand AssetMark’s retirement plan capabilities, fiduciary solutions, investment options, and overall value proposition
Identify opportunities within existing AssetMark advisor relationships to expand their use of AssetMark Retirement Services
Support opportunities throughout the sales lifecycle, from initial discovery and proposal development through finalist presentation and close
Accelerate SDBA Adoption:
Proactively identify advisors and existing AssetMark relationships with potential SDBA opportunities
Educate advisors on AssetMark’s SDBA capabilities and the benefits of professionally managing retirement assets held within SDBAs
Help advisors understand how SDBAs can complement their broader wealth management relationships and create opportunities to manage additional client assets
Conduct outbound campaigns and follow-up activities designed to generate new SDBA opportunities
Support advisors through the SDBA sales process and coordinate with appropriate internal teams to facilitate implementation
Maintain familiarity with major SDBA platforms and programs, including PCRA and BrokerageLink
Own Pipeline Management & Sales Follow-Up:
Maintain a complete and accurate territory pipeline for retirement plan and SDBA opportunities in Salesforce
Ensure opportunities include clear next steps, expected close dates, estimated assets, key contacts, and relevant sales activity
Proactively follow up with advisors and partners to prevent opportunities from becoming inactive or stalled
Coordinate and track proposals, benchmarking requests, finalist opportunities, and other key sales milestones
Conduct regular pipeline reviews with the Regional Consultant to establish priorities and determine appropriate sales strategies
Maintain an organized calendar of advisor follow-ups, campaigns, partner activity, and territory initiatives
Help provide visibility into expected new business and support accurate sales forecasting
Advisor & Partner Engagement:
Develop strong working relationships with financial advisors, AssetMark sales and ensemble teams, recordkeepers, and DCIO partners
Serve as an accessible internal resource for retirement plan and SDBA questions
Respond to advisor inquiries and coordinate with appropriate internal teams to resolve questions and advance opportunities
Participate in advisor meetings, webinars, educational events, and sales presentations as appropriate
Support recordkeeper and strategic partner relationships by coordinating opportunities, follow-up, and joint business development activities
Sales Campaigns & Business Development:
Execute targeted outbound campaigns in partnership with the Regional Consultant and AssetMark marketing teams
Utilize Salesforce, Discovery Database, marketing leads, advisor data, recordkeeper relationships, and other available resources to identify prospective opportunities
Follow up on marketing campaigns, event attendees, referrals, and inbound leads to convert interest into qualified sales opportunities
Identify trends within the territory that can be translated into targeted business development initiatives
Consistently develop new pipeline rather than relying exclusively on inbound opportunities
Internal Coordination:
Partner with marketing, operations, compliance, investment teams, and other internal resources to support advisor opportunities
Coordinate the development and delivery of sales materials, proposals, benchmarking analyses, and other advisor-facing resources
Help ensure a smooth transition of closed business from sales into onboarding and implementation
Communicate recurring advisor feedback, competitive intelligence, and marketplace trends to the Regional Consultant and Retirement Services leadership
Maintain Industry Expertise:
Develop and maintain strong knowledge of AssetMark Retirement Services, including retirement plan fiduciary solutions and SDBA capabilities
Maintain working knowledge of 401(k), Cash Balance, Non-Qualified Plans, SDBAs, recordkeeping platforms, and the broader retirement plan marketplace
Stay current on competitive offerings, industry trends, regulatory developments, and advisor needs
