We are looking for an Internet Storm Center Intern to participate in a hands-on cybersecurity internship focused on deploying and operating a DShield honeypot, investigating attack activity, and documenting observations from real-world threats. This position will be Part-Time and Remote.
Only work authorizations that will not require sponsorship now or in the future will be considered.
What You’ll Do
- Deploy, configure, and operate a DShield honeypot during the internship period
- Monitor and analyze attacks detected by the honeypot
- Research suspicious activity and investigate indicators associated with observed attacks
- Create and submit attack observation reports summarizing findings and lessons learned
- Review internship expectations and submit deliverables through Canvas on a regular basis
- Work independently while leveraging mentor support when needed
- Practice effective time management and self-management to meet internship deliverables
- Apply cybersecurity concepts learned through academic coursework to real-world attack analysis
What You'll Need
Required:
- Foundational knowledge of cybersecurity concepts and networking
- Ability to install, configure, and operate technical systems independently
- Basic to intermediate Python knowledge and the ability to understand simple scripts
- Ability to investigate and document technical findings in a clear manner
- Reliable internet connectivity and access to required honeypot hardware or an approved alternative platform
- Completion of required advising milestones and program prerequisites prior to registration
Preferred:
- Experience working with Linux or Ubuntu Server
- Familiarity with Raspberry Pi devices
- Experience with virtual machines, Proxmox, VMware ESXi, or cloud-hosted environments
- Exposure to malware analysis or threat research
- Experience writing technical reports or security observations
- Familiarity with Python-based security tools
Physical Demands
- Ability to safely and successfully perform the essential job functions consistent with the ADA and other federal, state, and local standards
- Ability to conduct repetitive tasks on a computer, utilizing a mouse, keyboard, and monitor
- Must be able to communicate with customers/team members over the phone and in person
- Sedentary work that involves sitting or remaining stationary most of the time with occasional need to move around the office to attend meetings, etc.

$20 per hourThe pay range for this position is listed above. Exact compensation may vary based on several factors, including location, experience, and education. Benefit packages for this role will include 401k retirement account access. Employees in this role may also be entitled to paid sick leave and/or other paid time off as provided by applicable law.
