Investment Executive - Venture Capital & Tech Startups

Back founders. Invest in technology. Help businesses scale.

Which founders would you back - and why?

Triklino Search is hiring an Investment Executive to find ambitious technology businesses, assess their potential and help fund their next stage of growth.

Hybrid work, with two days a week in the Cardiff office.

This is an opportunity to build your career in venture capital, working with founders and getting involved across the investment lifecycle, from the first pitch and investment decision through to follow-on funding and exit.

You could already be working in VC, or bring a corporate finance or management consulting background and want to apply your experience to startups and high-growth technology companies.

Get closer to founders and the decisions that shape a business

  • You’ll meet teams building products, developing intellectual property and taking technology to market. Your job will be to understand what makes each business compelling: the problem it solves, the market opportunity, the strength of the team and how it could scale.
  • You’ll turn that insight into an investment view, help structure the funding and stay involved as the company grows.
  • The remit spans early-stage startups and more established businesses raising growth capital, giving you exposure to different funding journeys and the challenges founders face along the way.

What you’ll get involved in

  • Find the next investment. Build your network across founders, investors and the wider startup ecosystem to uncover promising technology businesses.
  • Go beyond the pitch deck. Explore the product, market, business model, financials and IP. Challenge assumptions and build a clear view of the opportunity and risk.
  • Make the investment case. Develop recommendations and take opportunities through the investment approval process.
  • Get deals done. Negotiate terms and work with advisers to take investments through to completion, using equity, debt or a combination of funding.
  • Stay close after investment. Manage portfolio relationships, attend boards as an observer and support discussions around performance, leadership and growth.
  • Help unlock the next round. Build relationships with angels, VCs and corporate investors to bring together capital for new and follow-on investments.
  • Support the journey to exit. Work with portfolio companies as they build towards opportunities to realise value.

What you’ll bring

  • You have experience in venture capital, corporate finance, management consulting or a previous founder, and you’re motivated by the opportunity to work with technology businesses and the people building them.
  • You can assess a business, interrogate the numbers and explain your judgement clearly. You’re comfortable asking founders thoughtful questions, challenging a plan constructively and building relationships that last beyond a transaction.

You’ll also bring:

  • An understanding of equity investment in early-stage or growth businesses.
  • Experience working with co-investors and managing investment portfolios; exposure to successful exits would be a plus.
  • Knowledge of emerging technology, ideally across areas such as SaaS, cybersecurity, data analytics, telecoms, digital media or IoT.
  • An understanding of IP commercialisation and how technology moves from development into a viable business.
  • The ability to own your workload, make considered decisions and collaborate with an investment team.
  • Connections across the Welsh business ecosystem, knowledge of public-sector business finance and Welsh language skills would be welcome.

Build your career across the venture lifecycle

  • Reporting to the Deputy Fund Manager, you’ll have scope to deepen your investment judgement, build your investor network and develop experience across sourcing, deal execution and portfolio management.

You’ll work on a hybrid basis, with two days a week in the Cardiff office, alongside time out meeting founders, visiting businesses and building connections across the startup and investor ecosystem. The benefits package includes a pension, private medical cover and holiday allowance, supporting you as you build your career in venture capital.
