About MACA Advisors
MACA Advisors is a cross-border M&A advisory firm serving market leaders and institutional investors across Latin America and the Caribbean. We offer senior-led execution, cross-border expertise and rigorous analysis through a lean platform built on client alignment, transparency and trust.
The program
The MACA Summer Associate program is an educational program for MBA students who want to understand how cross-border M&A advisory works in practice. It runs each year from June to mid-August – 1 June to 13 August 2027, and 1 June to 11 August 2028. It is built around a structured curriculum taught by the firm’s bankers, case work modeled on real transactions, and supervised observation of how our team runs mandates. The program is designed to complement your MBA, and we work with business schools to support academic credit where it is available.
What you will learn
Advanced financial modeling and valuation: comparable companies, precedent transactions, DCF and LBO, taught in weekly sessions and applied in case exercises
How a sell-side, buy-side or capital raise advisory process runs, from preparation to closing, and the judgments that shape it
How pitch materials, teasers and memos are structured, drafted and reviewed
How senior bankers prepare for and run client and counterparty meetings
Latin American M&A specifics, including country risk premia, FX considerations and how multiples compare with US and European benchmarks
How the program works
A weekly training curriculum led by the firm’s bankers
Case projects built on anonymized or past transactions, with written feedback on each
Observation of team meetings and selected client calls, followed by debrief sessions on what was decided and why
A designated mentor who reviews your work and meets with you each week
A final case presentation to the firm’s partners, with a written evaluation at the close of the program
What you bring
Current enrollment in an MBA or equivalent graduate business or finance program, with expected graduation in 2028 (2027 program) or 2029 (2028 program)
Typically two to six years of work experience before your MBA
Strong quantitative and financial modeling skills, and a solid grasp of accounting and valuation
Clear, concise written and spoken communication
Judgment, care in the details and a willingness to ask questions
Fluency in Spanish and English (Portuguese required for Brazil-based participants)
Based in a time zone between UTC-3 and UTC-6
Preferred
Pre-MBA experience in investment banking, private equity, transaction services, corporate development, consulting or credit – career switchers with strong analytical skills are welcome
Familiarity with Latin American and Caribbean markets
Curiosity about how businesses in different sectors create value, whatever your pre-MBA industry – we are a generalist firm
What you take away
Practical training in modeling, valuation and transaction process at a senior level
A body of case work you can discuss with confidence
A mentor relationship with a working M&A banker and direct exposure to the firm’s partners
A written evaluation and, on request, a reference
Participation in the program does not guarantee an offer of employment. Participants who complete it may apply for a full-time role: those who receive offers join as Associate following their MBA graduation, with promotion to Associate Director on 1 January following their start.
Our process
An interview with a partner covering your career before and during your MBA
A case exercise with a member of our deal team
Two reference calls, including one with a manager from before your MBA
Confirmation with your business school of any academic credit or internship agreement
