Cornell is working exclusively with a European venture capital firm looking to appoint an Investment Principal to join its growing investment team.
The firm invests in early-stage technology businesses, with a particular focus on areas such as AI, enterprise software and cybersecurity. With an established portfolio and plans for further growth, the team is looking to strengthen its senior investment capability.
This is an opportunity to join an entrepreneurial investment platform, with significant ownership across the investment lifecycle and the ability to contribute to the firm's broader development and investment strategy. The role offers flexibility around location, with the firm headquartered in Lisbon.
The Role
Responsibilities will include:
- Leading investment processes from origination and initial evaluation through to due diligence and execution
- Sourcing and assessing new investment opportunities across European technology markets
- Conducting commercial due diligence, including market analysis, competitive positioning, business models and unit economics
- Developing relationships with founders, co-investors and the wider venture capital ecosystem
- Working closely with portfolio companies on commercial strategy, growth initiatives and subsequent funding rounds
- Contributing to investment committee discussions and broader portfolio management
- Supporting and mentoring junior investment professionals
Candidate Profile
The ideal candidate will likely bring:
- Approximately 7–10 years of relevant experience, combining a strong foundation in top-tier strategy consulting with direct investment experience in venture capital
- A demonstrable track record in commercial due diligence, financial analysis and transaction execution
- Experience investing in early-stage technology businesses, ideally across AI, enterprise software, cybersecurity or adjacent sectors
- Strong commercial judgement and an understanding of technology business models and growth drivers
- An established network across the European venture capital and technology ecosystem
- A proactive, intellectually curious and entrepreneurial approach, with the ability to operate effectively in a lean investment team
This is an opportunity to join a growing investment platform at an important stage of its development, with meaningful investment ownership, scope to contribute to the firm's longer-term strategy and future progression to Partner.
