IR & Threat Investigator

Piper Companies is seeking an IR & Threat Investigator for a leading cybersecurity-focused organization. The IR & Threat Investigator role is a fully remote position; however, candidates must be located and available to work within the Mountain Standard Time (MST) or Pacific Standard Time (PST) time zones. The IR & Threat Investigator will support enterprise security operations through incident response, threat detection, and threat investigation activities. An ideal candidate for the IR & Threat Investigator role will possess a strong foundation in IT infrastructure, including systems administration, networking, security, and virtualization, and have successfully transitioned into a cybersecurity-focused career with expertise in identifying, investigating, and responding to security threats.

Responsibilities of the IR & Threat Investigator:

• Investigate and respond to security incidents across enterprise environments, performing triage, containment, eradication, and recovery activities.
• Conduct threat hunting and threat investigations utilizing SIEM, EDR, network, cloud, and endpoint telemetry.
• Analyze indicators of compromise (IOCs), attacker tactics, techniques, and procedures (TTPs), and emerging threats to proactively improve detection capabilities.
• Collaborate with infrastructure, cloud, and security teams to strengthen security controls and enhance incident response readiness.
• Develop and maintain incident documentation, investigation reports, and recommendations for remediation and continuous improvement.
  
  

Qualifications of the IR & Threat Investigator:

• 5+ years of experience in cybersecurity with a focus on incident response, threat detection, threat hunting, or threat investigation.
• Strong foundational IT infrastructure experience across systems administration, networking, virtualization, and enterprise security technologies.
• Hands-on experience with SIEM platforms, EDR solutions, log analysis, and forensic investigation methodologies.
• Knowledge of MITRE ATT&CK, threat intelligence frameworks, malware analysis concepts, and adversary behaviors.
• Experience supporting cloud environments (Azure, AWS, or GCP) and modern enterprise infrastructures.
  
  

Compensation for the IR & Threat Investigator includes:

• Salary range: $125,000 – $175,000 depending on experience
• Comprehensive benefits package including medical, dental, vision, 401(k), PTO, Sick Leave as required by law
