The IT Portfolio Management Principal collaborates with business and technology leaders to promote portfolio management capabilities, improve portfolio outcomes, and lead enterprise portfolio maturity. You will provide strategic consultation and thought leadership to executives and portfolio leaders, helping shape long-term portfolio strategies, strengthen investment decision-making, and advance portfolio management practices across the enterprise. Working across business, technology, and portfolio stakeholders, the Principal identifies opportunities to improve portfolio performance, evolve operating models and ways of working, improve investments, and build organizational capability. Serving as a trusted advisor and advanced subject matter expert, you will develop strategic recommendations and helps guide enterprise portfolio management, investment governance, strategic planning, and organizational transformation efforts.

The IT Portfolio Management Principal is responsible for advancing portfolio management capabilities, practices, and maturity across the organization. This role partners closely with senior leaders, portfolio teams, and governance stakeholders to shape portfolio strategy, improve investment decision-making, strengthen organizational effectiveness, and drive continuous improvement.

The Principal serves as a trusted advisor and strategic partner, helping leaders improve portfolio health, optimize investments, evolve funding and planning approaches, strengthen value realization, and increase organizational capacity. Through collaboration, influence, and practical application, this role helps translate enterprise priorities into scalable portfolio management solutions that enable better business outcomes.

The role requires strong expertise in portfolio management and investment governance, the ability to navigate complex organizational challenges, and a demonstrated track record of guiding strategic change in large, matrixed environments.

Responsibilities

  • Help develop and execute multi-year portfolio strategies that improve portfolio effectiveness, investment outcomes, and strategic understanding.
  • Identify and lead initiatives that strengthen portfolio health, value realization, capacity planning, and funding approaches.
  • Serve as a trusted advisor to segment and enterprise leaders, helping address portfolio management challenges and drive continuous improvement.
  • Partner with Segment Portfolio leaders to identify adoption challenges, improvement opportunities, and practical solutions that strengthen portfolio outcomes and organizational effectiveness.
  • Collaborate with portfolio partners to design, test, implement, and scale new practices, tools, frameworks, and ways of working.
  • Develop strategic recommendations, and executive-ready materials that support informed decision-making.
  • Facilitate alignment across business, technology, portfolio, and governance stakeholders to improve strategic objectives.
  • Lead or support enterprise initiatives focused on portfolio transformation and operational excellence.
  • Influence adoption of portfolio management practices through partnership, coaching, communication, and change leadership.
  • Serve as the portfolio integration lead for the Corporate, Strategy and Operations Segment, providing a cohesive view of investments, priorities, risks, and outcomes.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Management, Finance, Business or any related course
  • 10 or more years of technical, business, portfolio management, transformation, or related experience.
  • 2+ years of experience supporting strategic initiatives, investment portfolios, or enterprise transformation efforts.
  • Demonstrated experience in Portfolio Management and Investment Governance, including prioritization, portfolio planning, portfolio health, funding, and investment decision-making processes.
  • Experience partnering with senior leaders to develop strategy, improve operating models, and improve organizational capabilities.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines while navigating ambiguity and creating clarity.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and deliver presentations to senior leaders across Technology and the Enterprise.
  • Advanced experience facilitating complex stakeholder discussions, influencing decisions, and encouraging alignment.
  • Experience developing executive recommendations, strategic roadmaps, frameworks, or enterprise-wide practices.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and continuous improvement skills.
  • Must be passionate about advancing ways of working that improve organizational effectiveness and consumer experiences.



Preferred Qualifications

  • MBA or other Advanced Degree
  • Strong understanding of portfolio funding strategies, value realization, capacity planning, portfolio optimization, and emerging portfolio management practices.
  • Experience designing and implementing portfolio management frameworks, standards, governance models, or enterprise capabilities.
  • Demonstrated success advancing organizational adoption of new practices, processes, or operating models through influence and partnership.
  • SAFe Lean Portfolio Management (LPM) Certification.
  • Lean Six Sigma Certification.
  • Experience working in healthcare or other highly matrixed enterprise organizations.

In certain roles, the minimum recommended internet speed required by Humana may not be sufficient for business needs. Humana reserves the right to require associates to upgrade their internet service if necessary. Work from a dedicated space lacking ongoing interruptions to protect member PHI / HIPAA information.

Travel: While this is a remote position, occasional travel to Humana's offices for training or meetings may be required.

Pay Range

The compensation range below reflects a good faith estimate of starting base pay for full time (40 hours per week) employment at the time of posting. The pay range may be higher or lower based on geographic location and individual pay will vary based on demonstrated job related skills, knowledge, experience, education, certifications, etc.


$142,300 - $195,700 per year


This job is eligible for a bonus incentive plan. This incentive opportunity is based upon company and/or individual performance.
