Position Description
The Operations Systems Support (OSS) team within ESB Networks' Distribution Markets and System Operations (DMSO) function are seeking to fill the role of Senior IT/Operational Technology (OT) Systems and Integration Engineer. The role of the OSS team is to support and maintain ESB Networks mission critical OT systems enable the monitoring, control, and management of Ireland's electricity distribution network. These include Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA), Electricity Distribution Network Management System (NMS) and Geographic Information System (GIS). These systems support real-time network operations, outage management, fault response, service restoration, and data exchange across multiple business and operational platforms.
This role provides a unique opportunity to support capabilities that form part of Ireland's critical national infrastructure. You will work at the forefront of Operational Technology, supporting the processes that underpin transformation of the electricity network as ESB Networks delivers the systems required for increased renewable generation, network flexibility, electrification and the transition to a net-zero future
The Senior IT/OT Systems and Integration Engineer is responsible for supporting, maintaining and enhancing ESB Networks’ critical Operational Technology systems, including NMS, SCADA and associated applications. The role ensures these business-critical platforms remain secure, resilient and available to support network operations, outage management and service restoration. Working closely with business and technology stakeholders, you will help deliver the technologies that support the ongoing transformation of Ireland’s electricity network.
The position involves delivering enhancements to the existing OT systems, supporting system upgrades and patch deployments, troubleshooting complex technical issues, and carrying out data management activities such as housekeeping, environment refreshes, and data integrity maintenance. The Senior IT/OT Systems & Integration Engineer is also responsible for developing and maintaining custom interfaces and integrations between OT systems and ESB or third-party applications ensuring seamless data exchange and operational effectiveness across the organisation.
A key element of the role is working with OT vendors, providing oversight across system support and enhancement activities. Responsibilities include reviewing and approving change requests, supporting the implementation of new functionality, coordinating problem resolution, and engaging with vendor support teams at all levels to ensure timely and effective issue management.
In addition to technical responsibilities, the role has a strong focus on knowledge management and capability development. This includes producing and maintaining high-quality technical documentation, standard operating procedures, configuration records, user guides, and operational runbooks to support effective system operation and support. The Senior IT/OT Systems & Integration Engineer will also play an important role in mentoring and developing junior team members, promoting knowledge transfer, supporting structured training programmes, and building sustainable technical capability within the Technical Operations team.
Key Responsibilities:
- Support and maintain ESB Networks critical OT systems, including Electricity Distribution
- NMS and SCADA, ensuring the system availability, reliability, and performance.
- Troubleshoot and resolve complex application, integration, and operational technology issues within the OT systems.
- Support, maintain, and develop custom interfaces between the OT systems and ESB and third-party systems, ensuring the effective integration and exchange of operational data.
- Support, maintain, and enhance custom Electricity Distribution NMS reporting functionality to meet operational and business reporting requirements.
- Perform data maintenance activities, including data maintenance and data quality activities, validation, and data refreshes across OT environments.
- Support the development and optimisation of advanced Distribution Management System (DMS) capabilities including, Power Flow Analysis, Fault Location, Isolation and Service Restoration (FLISR), Distributed Energy Resource Management Systems (DERMS), Load Forecasting, Network Optimisation.
- Contribute to the ongoing evolution of smart network capabilities that support increased renewable generation, electrification and network flexibility.
- Delivery of enhancement projects for the existing OT systems, ensuring alignment with operational and strategic objectives.
- Work with OT system vendors to ensure issue resolution, review and approve change requests, guide the implementation of new functionality, and coordinate effectively with vendor support teams to ensure systems remain stable, secure, and aligned with operational and business requirements
- Support the delivery of new projects including system upgrades and problem resolution activities.
- Support testing activities, including system, integration, user acceptance, and regression testing for upgrades, enhancements, and new functionality.
- Work closely with the wider OSS team, OT Delivery, Enterprise IT Services, the OT vendors, and business stakeholders to ensure the successful operation and continuous improvement of critical real-time operational systems.
- Work closely with other areas of the business to understand operational requirements, address system issues, and deliver effective technology solutions.
- Maintain regular engagement and communication with team members, business stakeholders, vendors, and support teams to ensure effective service delivery and project execution.

- Supervise, mentor, and support junior team members, promoting collaboration, knowledge sharing, and technical skill development.
Essential Knowledge, Skills and Experience
- Minimum of 8 years post-graduate experience in Computer Science, Information Systems or a related discipline
- Proven ability to support, maintain and troubleshoot mission-critical IT/OT systems with high availability and resilience requirements.
- Excellent Unix/Linux administration and shell scripting capabilities (Bash, KSH).
- Excellent SQL querying, database analysis, and PL/SQL programming skills.
- Experience in Python programming.
- Experience developing and maintaining system integrations and custom interfaces.
- Strong data management skills, including validation, cleansing, transformation, and maintenance activities.
- Ability to investigate complex technical issues, identify root causes, and implement sustainable solutions.
- Experience supporting testing activities, including System Testing, Integration Testing, User Acceptance Testing, and Regression Testing.
- Ability to produce and maintain high-quality technical documentation, operational procedures, and support documentation.
- Experience supporting system enhancements, upgrades, and project delivery activities.
- Ability to supervise, mentor, coach, and technically develop junior team members.
- Promote collaboration, knowledge sharing, and continuous improvement across the team.
- Ability to provide technical leadership and guidance during problem-solving and project delivery activities.

Desirable Knowledge, Skills and Experience
- Experience working with SCADA and NMS or similar OT systems
- Experience working with Electrical Utility Network Data Models
- Experience is software development, programming and scripting
- Experience working with electrical Network Management systems, ideally Oracle NMS
- Java and C Programming experience
- Experience working with GIS systems such as Hexagon’s GDesigner
- Experience developing Oracle Apex applications
