Java Integration Engineer I
Join Mutual of Omaha’s Workplace Solutions team and help shape the future of claims technology for hundreds of thousands of members. We are in the middle of a major transformation, migrating a 25-year on-premises claims adjudication platform (FINEOS) to its modern SaaS offering in the cloud. This isn’t a lift-and-shift — it’s a ground-up rebuild of the integrations that power short-term disability, long-term disability, life insurance, hospital indemnity, critical illness, and our expanding absence management product line.
As a Java Integration Engineer I on the ReClaimer’s team, you’ll build hands-on experience across the full claims integration lifecycle — from intake through payment — while working alongside senior engineers and business analysts. This is a great opportunity for an early-career developer to grow enterprise Java and integration skills while supporting both our modernization effort and the legacy on-premises environment that remains in production.
What We Can Offer You
- Estimated Salary: $110,000 - $116,000
- 401(k) plan with a 2% company contribution and 6% company match
- Work-life balance with vacation, personal time and paid holidays. See our benefits and perks page for details
- Applicants for this position must not now, nor at any point in the future, require sponsorship for employment
This role is classified as remote; however, periodic in-person attendance will be required at times for activities such as quarterly or project planning, training, or other business-critical meetings.
What You’ll Do
- Support the design and build of API and microservice integrations connecting FINEOS insurance SaaS to internal systems including payments, member onboarding, financial platforms, and correspondence workflows
- Contribute to features from intake to payment as part of a feature-focused agile team, working closely with senior engineers on end-to-end business capabilities
- Help support and maintain the existing on-premises claims environment alongside modernization work
- Collaborate with business analysts and product owners to understand claims business requirements and translate them into working backend solutions, with guidance from senior team members
- Participate in agile ceremonies including sprint planning, backlog refinement, and technical design reviews within a SAFe/ART delivery model
- Build familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and engineering practices as the platform evolves
- Grow your understanding of integration patterns and enterprise architecture through code reviews and pairing with senior engineers
- On call support once every 6-8 weeks
What You’ll Bring
- 2+ years of professional Java application development with hands-on experience in Spring and Spring Boot
- Experience building REST APIs and microservices, ideally in an enterprise environment
- Good SQL skills and comfort working with relational databases in an integration context
- A desire to learn and to drive issues to resolution with growing independence
- Comfortable working in agile teams and collaborating closely with business analysts and non-technical stakeholders
- You promote a culture of diversity and inclusion, value different ideas and opinions, and remain curious in all that you do
- Able to work remotely with access to high-speed internet; must be located in the United States or Puerto Rico
Preferred
- AWS, MuleSoft, or other cloud integration and middleware platforms
- Oracle database experience
- Exposure to Kafka and event-driven architecture concepts
- Docker, Jenkins, Kubernetes, or CI/CD pipeline tooling
- Familiarity with FINEOS or other SaaS claims/insurance platforms
- Coursework, internship, or project experience with SAFe, ART delivery, or large-scale agile environments
Why You’ll Love It Here
