About The Role
Leidos is seeking a highly skilled Java Software Engineer with Scrum Master expertise to join the Air Traffic Business Area within the Homeland Sector. This role is pivotal in supporting the development of next-generation flight service and air traffic management systems. The position aligns with the FAA's initiative to modernize legacy flight infrastructure by replacing aging systems with scalable, cloud-based platforms aimed at enhancing safety and operational efficiency, especially in remote and high-dependency aviation environments. This hybrid role involves approximately equal parts hands-on software development and Agile team facilitation. The successful candidate will be involved in designing, developing, testing, and maintaining cloud-native Java microservices, while also serving as a Scrum Master to foster Agile practices within the team. This position offers an opportunity to contribute to mission-critical systems in a highly regulated, safety-critical environment, working alongside cross-functional teams and technical leaders to deliver predictable, high-quality outcomes.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field with 4+ years of relevant experience, or Master’s degree with 2+ years of experience
- Minimum of 3 years of experience designing, developing, testing, and reviewing Java applications
- At least 1 year of experience serving as a Scrum Master within a SAFe Agile environment
- Proficiency in web development with tools and languages such as React, HTML, CSS, and JavaScript
- Experience with unit testing frameworks like Junit and Mockito
- Hands-on experience with RESTful APIs, JSON, XML, and XSD
- Strong knowledge of Spring Framework, Spring Security, and Spring Boot
- Experience working with Linux operating systems
- Familiarity with version control systems such as Git or Subversion
- Proficiency with development tools and IDEs like Eclipse or Visual Studio Code
- Understanding of sound software development principles and best practices
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to obtain SF-85 Public Trust (Tier 2) suitability clearance
- U.S. Citizenship is mandatory
Responsibilities
- Design, develop, test, review, debug, deploy, and maintain high-quality, cloud-native Java microservices for flight and air traffic systems
- Contribute to software architecture and technical design decisions, ensuring scalability and security
- Serve as Scrum Master by facilitating Agile ceremonies, removing impediments, and promoting continuous improvement within the team
- Leverage modern DevSecOps practices, including CI/CD pipelines and AI-assisted development tools, to accelerate software delivery
- Coordinate with Release Train Engineers, management, and stakeholders to communicate project status, risks, and dependencies
- Support deployment activities, operational troubleshooting, and resolution of critical issues in development, testing, and production environments
- Mentor junior engineers and foster collaboration across engineering teams to ensure successful sprint execution and project delivery
- Participate in code reviews, technical discussions, and documentation to ensure adherence to quality standards
