Senior Java Engineer with DevOps Experience

Location: Malaysia (Remote)

Employment Type: Full-time

We’re hiring a Senior Java Engineer with a strong DevOps background to maintain and scale production systems. You’ll work with engineering and IT teams on Java microservices, production reliability, and the build-out of a Google Kubernetes Engine (GKE) environment on Google Cloud Platform.

What you’ll do

  • Develop, maintain, and optimize Java backend microservices and APIs.
  • Improve service availability and performance through JVM tuning, memory profiling, garbage collection analysis, and database query optimization.
  • Help build and improve the GKE environment, including Kubernetes autoscaling strategies.
  • Work with the IT team on infrastructure-as-code and deployment solutions using tools such as Ansible, Helm, or Terraform.
  • Investigate production incidents using logs, distributed tracing, and monitoring tools; lead root-cause analysis and help prevent recurring issues.
  • Participate in an on-call rotation for production support.

What we’re looking for

  • At least 5 years of hands-on Java backend development experience, including Spring Boot, Spring MVC, or microservices.
  • At least 2 years of DevOps experience covering Kubernetes, Docker, CI/CD, and infrastructure as code.
  • Strong understanding of Java concurrency, multithreading, and JVM internals.
  • Experience troubleshooting distributed systems, performance issues, out-of-memory errors, and database queries.
  • Experience with relational databases and Redis.
  • Experience with Google Cloud Platform and Google Kubernetes Engine.
  • Proficiency in Linux and command-line operations.
  • Familiarity with observability practices and tools, such as distributed tracing, APM, and ELK/EFK.
  • Fluency in Chinese is required.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to collaborate with IT/DevOps, QA, and business teams.
  • Willingness to join an on-call rotation.

Nice to have

  • Experience with KEDA or other advanced Kubernetes autoscaling approaches.
  • Experience with large-scale data systems or OLAP databases such as ClickHouse.
  • Familiarity with cloud networking, service mesh, or container networking (CNI).
